rebuilding a steering box

The large adjuster nut at the end of the box, has the race for the bearing.

I see the slots, but my jack-puller jaws are too big to get a grip on them.

Any ideas...................

Would heat help, using a screw driver as a pry bar. ?????

If it isn't scored, leave it alone.

As previously stated, leave bearing race alone unless there's truly a need to replace. If adamant about removing bearing race, make certain adjuster/cover is perfectly clean then stuff it into a toaster oven. Since adjuster is made of aluminum, steel bearing race will easily fall out once adjuster is sufficiently heated.

Great tip, Chet. (Toaster) I do hope I never have to use it!
