More Corvair comments from the public..

Those of us who attend car shows, cruises and the rest where john Q public is also in attendance, have heard all the usual Corvair comments.. Nader, engine falls out, belt breaks, car rolls over...my relative was killed in one.

This past weekend I heard a new one..(at least to me)

A guy came up and blurted out, while pointing at my wire wheels covers "Corvair wire wheels were know to fly off at high speeds and kill people"....

Obviously he has never had to remove mine!

Should I consider bolting them to the wheels?

Well....at least he indirectly concedes that Corvairs are capable of attaining high speeds!

There were stories back in the day the supposedly the 3 bar spinners could come apart and fly around causing damage etc. Then we got the 67 round centers. Don't how true this all is but I have heard the stories. It is a short stretch to wheel covers fly off and kill peoplewinking smiley

I've lost several to potholes, but no one got hurt, and I usually found them, with some damage, but still daily driver quality!

Maybe he was thinking of the chariot races in Ben Hur with the spinners...
