That is all still pretty well true, but the Diesel fuel can also cause detonation when mixed with todays high octane blends. It will lower the boiling point as well as the octane. It is supposed to fire from compression ignition.

Just a thought is the in-tank filter "sock" is getting clogged. This would cause a stronger vacuum to be pulled by the fuel pump, bringing the fuel line and suction side of the pump pressure below saturation pressure of the fuel. High temperatures would make this worse.

General Motors specifies metal fuel lines between the fuel pump and the Carbureators.

I ignored this about ten years ago when I put a replacement Holley on my Blazer.

And it vaporlock'd and did not like it.

The Spliced in Metal fuel filter in the engine bay and 2 pieces of rubber fuel line causes vaporlok in Hot Weather In my experience.

Rubber is a thermal insulator, metal will dissapate the heat.
