New Corvair Engine...

I know that Chevy pretty much declared the Corvair DOA, but did they ever come up with a next gen Corvair engine, maybe to compete with Porsche? And if so, are there any blue prints?

Corvair was not DOA!! super successful thru 1964! Then the Mustang!

There's even a picture of the 1970 Prototype here..

High production costs and the intro of the Mustang into the market killed the Corvair.

GM went with commonality throughout their line to reduce costs in the years after the last redesign for 1965. Novas, Camaros, Chevelles and Impalas all used the same parts, production lines and engine plants. Much less expensive than building a Corvair.

The Lakewood wagon only lived for two years until Chevrolet realized the Nova wagon suited the same market and cost less to build. Good bye Corvair wagons. The writing was on the wall then.

In addition, GM was never gonna spend the money trying to redevelop the Corvair engine to meet Federal smog requirements coming in the 1970's.

My personal opinion is that it came down to MONEY and the bottom line that led to the end of production.

One example would be the engine. It would only work in the Corvair where a in line 4 cyl, 6cyl, small or big block V8 would fit into virtually any other Chevrolet built back then.

The same would also apply to the differential and many other parts.

Yes many of the parts used in the Corvair were shared by other GM products which is why there are still so many parts still available for our cars either in the aftermarket, used, NOS, or reproduced.
