Nice one, Danny! Your post brings to mind BrentF (Canada) '66 Corsa 180 convertible with a/c. That one was memorable too.

14 years old in '68 and my Dad bought what would become my 65 140 Corsa from a guy a block away. Guy he bought it from worked at a dealer and had built a LM vert with a mid-engine blown Buick. It was stunning. Maroon as I recall. Carpeted engine cover. Made it into one of the minor mags. I remember the article said something like,"It will definitely get the groceries." Think his name was Gene Totra.

I tried to track him, and the car, down a few years ago with little results.

There has been quite a few but one that for some reason sticks in my head...back in the late 70s we (my brother and I) looked at nearly every Corvair that was for sale in our town. This one was a '65 Corsa turbo convertible. It had the factory red pinstripe over black car with black interior and black top. Wood steering wheel and a wood shift knob. This car was almost rusted beyond help and the turbo was ceased up and it ran terrible. It's a color combination that i've not seen since in 40+ years of Corvair activities.

There have been so many others.

For me it was "El Grecko" on display at the 2013 Great Plains Corvair Round Up in Wichita KS. The story goes it was owned by a man who made his living as an traveling one man band. This great piece of....art is still available. It may be on display this year as the GPCRU will return to Wichita.

Yes that is the fabulous Timothy Shortle and his near equal Jerry Pentzer eying the van!

One that I will always remember - around the Midwest regional and National Conventions - the 'Shark' Van - the grey greenbrier with custom front end work to look like a shark.

As a little kid - I thought it was pretty cool.

Also - my other convention favorite - Warren LeVeque's Red w/ Black stripe Yenko Stinger

I'll throw the one in too...
The 1961 Amblewagon from the estate of Egil Twedt. The one that was last seen in Germany. When I saw it the odometer was just over 10,000. It was complete and unmolested. I shoulda, shoulda, shoulda bought it!

There is much anticipation for the "Firebrier".

I lived in the DC area from 1973-2011. This is the same car I drooled over many times, he was a member of Group Corvair. I inquired about the car some time back and was told the same thing, the owner passed and his son had it. Tht car, with the 69-70 Chevelle SS wheels with the Corsa emblems in the center, the detail, I was always impressed.I had a green 65 Corsa turbo with a 66 drivetrain and interior that I added 3 VDO gauges over the radio, and I even did the unthinkable (now) by installing a sunroof.

The color tally for whatever that's worth...

Black 7
Green 5 (tie)
White 5 (tie)
Red 3
Grey,Beige, Blue, Turquoise, Maroon 1-each

Not counting "Nick's Spyder" because the color was not mentioned.

Caraholic4life, My favorite and most memorable is the very same Crown car. I lived in NOVA from 1973-2011, and was a member of Group Corvair. I inquired some time back about the car and also heard the owner had passed and that his son had the car, but it apparently has not been seen. It was a beautiful, well built and detailed car.

Mike’s car is safe. Dave Edsinger knows little Mike as well as he did “big” Mike.
The car was taken apart by Mike to fix some things he didn’t like. I’m pretty sure it’s still apart, but stored well.

Hokey Alert!!!

My most memorable Corvair is my '65 Turbo Corsa and the recollection of how it looked when I bought it in '68 to get me thru the rest of my college "career". Blue mist over white vinyl, nicely optioned, and still without any of the symptoms of a working life in the Midwest snow belt.

No other 'Vair looms larger in my aging brain.

Keep 'em flying...

Oh my goodness Gary that looks more like a meeting of the GRAY HAIRED MENS CLUB.
Just don't look at those bellies! At the time though Jerry and I were eyeing your Rampside (if memory serves me well). We had already moved on from that Grecko.

Craig,
I fell in love with Cosmic wheels after reading the report about and pictures of the Solar Cavalier in the March 1974 issue of MOTOR TREND. They're still being made for, of all things, Volkswagens. I recently wrote the vendor to see if a Chevy bolt pattern might be available in 15" wheels. The answer was negative, so I'm back to my plan to cut the back off 13" Cosmics and screw them to a Rocket style dished mag.

Craig replies: Yup! That's the same era I fell in love with them too. Here's an odd fact: My friend with the Cosmic-wheel Emerald-Green 4-dr also purchased Art Hershberger's Solar Automotive catalog car used in the Motor Trend article. The catalog car's Cosmic wheels were switched onto the Emerald Green car so we fell in love with the same exact wheels!

Below: A picture of the Solar car at my house in CA. As you can see, the wheels had been switched to HandS-type wheels. The catalog pic shows it with the Cosmic wheels.
