Looks like that Chevy is still running. I can show you 4 1960s & 1970s Fords on my country mile that aren't. But then there aren't any parked and rusting Chevy nor Dodges from that era in that same country mile.

Cant' kill GM straight six from that era. Guaranteed not a V8.
I owned a 65 long box big 292 straight six with granny in college...
UNSTOPPABLE!

Awesome he's still driving that even if less than safe!

Obviously!! How many Fords from that era are still on the road? The newer F350's are horrible, the beds rot right off of them, most around here have flat beds. And the frames flake apart in chunks.

People used to say you couldn't kill a slant six either. My brother blew up the one in my ex-DNR truck. It threw a rod out the side of the block and was still running all the way to my house. It was smoking and clattering so bad, that he picked up a police tail! Lol

My 72 F100 runs anytime I get the key. It has only surface rust. Every Ford I have owned has been bullet proof and reliable. I'm talking 300k plus too. I'm not into the whole Chevy vs Ford thing though. I just like cars and trucks. As of today, Chevy still hasn't fixed their rust problems. You would think after all these years QC would get it together. I see Chevy trucks less than 10 years old with rockers and cab corners rusted completely through around here. Call it owners neglect if you want but it seems they rust quicker than others. Some of the new Dodge trucks seem to have rotted wheel wells quite often too.

I once blew up a friend's slant six. He and I were headed to Columbus and he asked me to drive his car. Knew we were in trouble as soon as I lit it up (with the most horrible sounds coming from under the hood), but he was ok with it. Got halfway there, turned onto the interstate, and as soon as I accelerated down the entry ramp...BOOM...and it was literally dropping parts down the road (what a sight in the rear view mirror!) The car was sluggish but still running as I pulled over. The sight under the hood was hysterical! There sticking out of the side of the block, furiously going up and down, was half a rod!eye popping smiley

But it was still running!! Even today, I'm ROTFLMAO

I sold my 84 F150, XL short bed to a friend two years ago. He still has it and while the paint is a bit faded there is no rust. It sat outside in Farmington, N.M. for 5 years and still no rust. I bought it new and the worst thing about it was the electronic &*^%$ feedback carburetor.

If you take care of them whether it be Ford or Chevy they will last.

I'm still sorry I sold it but when wife says get down to 2 cars from 4 it had to go along with my 65 Monza coupe which had some rust.

That same thing happened to a "truck of certain Asian origin" that my mechanic put up on his lift. He took a picture of it, set it down, and parked it back in his waiting lot. Customer came around, and asked if it was done (he wanted new exhaust.) Mechanic showed him the picture and told him that he wasn't about to work on it. Last time my mechanic heard, the customer had driven it straight to the scrap yard. LOL

What drives me nuts is rusting brake lines - if there's anything that just should not be allowed to happen, that is it. At least on a truck they are generally easy to replace.

My DD is a 99 S10 2.2 5spd - it just keeps going, but I have the typical rusted rockers and front fender legs to fix. Luckily, the parts for these trucks are cheap and everywhere.
