SuperVair Torn Axle Boot Job...PITA

But the pita part is a good thing.

Arch built the crap out of this thing.

Disassembled all five L/H links to move hub.

For the haters that is a TEN LINK suspension.

Plus the coilover, hanger strut, and stabilizer bar.

I think the right 915/G50 Porsche boot is ordered.

Nothing!
Super Vair is hotter than anything I have!
But some people seem to want to bash Phil and his car.
Jealousy?
Trolling?
Nothing better to do with their time?
Who knows?

Maybe it shows that Corvairs don't really need disc brakes!

I know they look cool, but I have driven all my vairs in lots of different situations, and with properly maintained drums - never saw an issue / need for discs.

I had alot of issues with the CV Boots with the racer, continuous running at 150+ MPH requires venting the boot. The ultimate cure was switching to the Swepco CV grease. I now have well over 100 laps on the current axles and no boot issues and with the Swepco they run cooler. Probably not an issue on a street car but i highly recomend using the Swepco grease. The Redline and other synthetics wouldnt last a weekend. Mike

Phil,

Just getting my two cents worth in on this thread....

At least you are not opting for a "Split Boot" like a lot of folks might do on their daily driver.eye rolling smiley

It is nice to see you are doing things the right way.

I hope you drive the wheels off that car and have the time of your life doing it.thumbs up

Amazon overnight for $6 bucks is the bomb.

Got the "right" Germany made boot assembly.

The metal flanges slips over the CV joint.

Small end seals on the axle without a clamp.

Turns out to be 1975-85 915 5 speed 911 part.

The axles by the way are Sway-A-Way good stuff.

The Drive Shaft Shop is who I bought the carbon fiber driveshaft from for my '13 Mustang after I added the supercharger.

Funny that SWEPCO's site doesn't mention CV joints as an application.
I wouldn't have guessed - thanks for the info!

Never had a CV joint completely apart...very interesting design.

I've done a few import axle assemblies but never a clean and relube.

Only goes back together one way and I count seventy two possibilities.

Ended up being the bigger G50 bolt circle so the GKN/Loebro kit got used.
