Question for FC Owners

When using the 64-65 style engine access door, have any of you been successful in re-gluing the stock license lens to the door? (For those of you playing along at home it is item #8 as indicated in the accompanying photo.)

I have a nicely refinished door, and an NOS lens. But some years ago I installed an NOS lens in another nice door and the lens disappeared in short order. I no longer remember what glue I used – I think it may have been weatherstrip adhesive – but obviously it was not a good choice.

Any successful experience out there?

I haven't been able to find a lens for the engine door. I am going to seal a piece of 1/8 Plexiglas over the hole and call it good. Got to have a way to stop gas reinjestion.

I have used just a couple dob's of Goop clear adhesive will hold the lens. Easy to clean up any excess when 1/2 dry and also makes the lens removable sometime down the road.

I was able to find a broken [cracked in half] lens on a parts van many years ago. It was very brittle and if I recall correctly, one of the tabs holding it in broke off as it was removed. I used clear silicone sealant to hold the pieces together and attach it to the door opening. It has been holding for about 8 years now.

For clear acrylic plastic repair, there are products like Weldon #16. This is a clear acrylic solvent-cement that fuses the clear plastic together making a stronger bond than the acrylic it's self. When applied carefully there is little overlap for a clean repair.

Looks similar to Testors cement for models.

Yep. same experiences I had building models. I was always leaning over the work while glueing. things always would get fuzzy and I would have to stop and rest.
