Drove her today

Five months, plus, she has been parked, back surgery and recovery on my part. Car started up with about three key turns of 20 seconds each (mechanical fuel pump). Not one sound of a valve click! Took a 20 mile fun trip and car ran great. An old Corvairs and an old man ran together like a horse and carriage.

Back is doing great, not perfect yet. I was told before surgery it will be 12 to 18 months for recovery. I was in OR 7.5 hours.

I think I will put a small block of wood between the back-rest & seat-cushion. This will set the back-rest more up and down. I do this on the modern daily driver with the adjustable seat switches, all electric back-rest movement with todays cars.

I always drive in an upright position, too.
One of my pet peeves with newer cars is that some of them have headrests that are pointed toward the back of your head. There is no adjustment other than up or down a little. For an upright driver, it's impossible to straighten out your back while driving.

Well, I always try to be upright... grinning smiley

On long trips, I have removed the headrest in order to be tolerably comfortable.

Any trouble getting in and out, Curt?

Getting in is no problem. Getting out I need a pole in my R hand, this allows extra lift while keeping my back straight. The left hand pushes off the door sill. As time passes and strength comes back I doubt the pole/stick will be needed. As a side note, using a cane will cause the back to bend. A pole keeps the back straight. Amazon has some great poles/walking sticks.
