Well, during a 6 month long shop remodel, i have removed the center divider wall and drop ceiling in my shop, ripped out the wood flooring and carpet in this half, poured this half of my concrete slab (i did the other half 5 years ago) and replaced my other door with an insulated door, i finally used today's break in the weather to move the Craigmobile back into the shop to get going again! I finally decided this year that some shop improvements were much overdue. Late spring I purchased a shipping container to keep Craigs car and a handful of my equipment and toys in to free up this half of the shop. The container will double as car storage as well for now until i get more property with a bigger shop. Always easier to add more storage than it is to stop buying cool toys! Hahaha!

I still have a ton more organizing to do and shop wiring to take care of yet, but inbetween that I plan to drop the car back off the rotisserie onto its suspension points and finalize the fit of all the sheet metal! Im excited to now have a much better working space to do it in!

A couple nights ago I went around and did some welding to correct uneven door gaps. Last night i finalized the metal work on this damaged area. Next step will be some bodywork to the fender and door!

thanks for all the kind words guys!

Progress has been slow, as I was tired of working on the shop remodel project and hadn't gotten my heater reinstalled. Then it got COLD and i quickly realized im not as tough as the old days. Ha!

I finally got the body work on the drivers fender finished. All thats left before prime is to fit the fuel door

Also the driver's lower front panel was welded on way out of whack from the factory. Tonight I ground out all the spot welds from the outside of the rail out, re-set the lower front panel in the correct place and re-welded. Just a small amount of prep and bodywork and this section will be finished as well!

Cody, with his extensive experience with metal work on the LMs, was very helpful to me. The rebuild of the area at the bottom of the windshield was a huge job and Cody helped me remove some of the mystery over a series of text messages.

Maybe he charged his time Craig's account. drinking smiley

Flat 6-im glad I could be of help! I LOVE marina blue on a late, I'm pretty jealous honestly!

Most of the excitement for me on this build is as long as I have known Craig, ive heard stories from back in the day about this car. I am glad to be able to help bring it back to better than it was back then!

Craig dropped off new fuel door bumpers on Friday. I ended up having to massage the top bumper mount inward and slide hammer the lower one outward. I had to grind off the two front corners and re weld them and I also had to build up the top and back edges with weld. Then over to the vise to flatten out the excess curve, sand blast, skim coat of filler and it is ready for primer!

I forgot the before picture, but the bottom of the drivers front fender was also pretty crooked and not parallel with the rocker from the factory. with limited access to the back side, this time I chose to cut inside of the spot welds, adjust inward and re-weld my cut area.

Also twisted the drivers door slightly for best fit to the top of the quarter and the rocker panel. I am not too worried about fit of the door to this quarter as it was poorly installed and there is a brazed overlap seam between the jamb and quarter along the rear door gap. I will make this quarter or a new one match the contour of the door when I weld it on properly. I hammered the creases from the door and prepped the surface. Ready for filler and block sanding!

Interesting findings on the body.

I also noted a lot of quality issues like these on my 66 vert that had to be corrected. Another one was the right rear fender had an arch in the middle and was higher than the deck lid.

It seems that the Fisher factory had started to slide a bit in 66. This was before Honda and Toyota came in to the scene and woke up the sleeping giants in Detroit.

That red Fitch Sprint convertible is going to be awesome! Don't let anyone say it is over restored - you are just getting the body back to what the designers intended. smileys with beer

Yes my convertible had the same rear fender "arch too high in the middle" with relation to the engine lid (no it wasn't the engine lid). I figured out why. The convertible body had an extra rear brace spot welded under the rear fender weatherstrip/drain channel. If the brace is positioned poorly before welding it "bulges" the middle of the fender arc up.

I had to drill out the spot welds, reposition the brace, then weld it back in place.

Thanks! I totally agree! All this straightening and aligning is making me want to re-gap my own cars as well!

There were a few slide hammer holes about 1/3 back on the drivers door from a bad dent. Re-working that section into shape created an oil can on the bottom section when I worked it out. A little shrinkong, sand blast, bodywork and now epoxy primer on fender, door and fuel door!!
