A few discoveries as I get into the final dismantling...

1) The original Koni shocks work fine but look terrible. I was thinking of just painting them... then I left them upside down overnight... Top seal leaked oil. Darn

2) Aeon spring boosters are pretty well done but new ones are on the shelf thanks to a CCF member who cracked-open his Sprint parts locker.smileys with beer

3) Steering arms still show the Sprint-signature blue-paint.

1)& 2) I've found the easy way to remove front suspension and gas tank! grinning smiley

3) Steering damper still works perfectly; I didn't expect that! That's going to save a nickel. I wonder what color they were originally? Grey? Black? Anyone know?

Cody was over yesterday to see his "new" rotisserie and assess the job ahead. He's thrilled about the easy access he'll have for working on the underside and dreams of having his FC Jeep cab on the rotisserie.smileys with beer

If Fitches Arms were Blue...why not the Damper? Will help people see all the Fitch components when done!

I installed a new Clarks steering damper the other day that a guy purchased last Fall and it was black. I don't know about "originally".

Craig,

I "think" the steering dampener on John Fitch's demo Sprint in the Corvair Museum is painted white. It has been 2 years since I saw it and could not locate a picture of it showing the steering dampener.

Questions about "new" AEON rear springs. First, are there any markings on them? Guessing there are no markings, otherwise you would not have asked about markings on my 2 British AEONS

Second, are the steel bushing at the top threaded or smooth?

Craig replies: They're threaded. I'll take pix add dimensions per PM request and post here when we're out of our medically induced forum coma.

Craig replies: Yup! Large diameter washers on both sides and the damping resistance is fairly low. Works great as long as the trunk metal is good. cool smiley

Today i went up to craigs and removed the paint layers from all the flat panels to prevent warpage during the sand blasting process. Craig has been busy with final disassembly and the lifelong task of undercoating removal.

Life with a rotisserie is sure nice! After 3 hours of working with one im already liking it

I just picked the car up from the sandblaster - yeah! Solid car under all the crud but it's going to need a lot of Cody's TLC bodywork. Next I'm off the the paint store for some epoxy primer. smiling bouncing smiley

A couple more shots. It's so nice to have all the mud and undercoating off. It looks great under it all; well except for the dents, pull-holes, and assorted pinhole rust areas.

The new Clarks steering damper I installed recently did not mount on sheetmetal. It went from the idler arm to the driver's end of the center link.

Everything vacuumed and blown out, everything sealed up in epoxy primer and toys put away. Long night but glad its done. This rotisserie life is ruining me. I may never work on another car on its wheels ever again! Lol its great!

Great job with the restoration so far!!!

Looks good. Did you flush all of the sand and other crud out of the rockers? Now is a great time to do that.
