Photographic progress has been slow, but the inner panel is welded in and fits! Ive had the quarter off and on a half dozen times massaging the wheel opening and rear panel for the best fit. I just flattened out the excess arch in the deck lid, next I will fit all the cove trim to be sure the deck lid and quarter are both in the right location to finalize fit. The quarter to door and wheel opening fit are exactly where I want em! More progress!

Thanks! I am excited to get this thing back to Craig all ready for assembly! I am very happy to be a part of this!

I installed all cove trim to verify deck lid adjustment, quarter panel fit and placement amd trim fit. I wanted to be 100% sure the trim fit nicely as I cant fake the trim. I can cut/weld/grind the body to make it happy, but the aluminum qnd pot metal corner fit is what it is. At this point the quarter is screwed in place and I am happy with its fit. The drivers side of the tail panel needs a little more massaging, re-fit, and then the cove trim and the quarter will come back off, drill out all areas for plug welds, and reinstall for the final time!

Your build has the tight and consistent panel gaps and fit Fisher body could only envy. I’m leaving my panel gaps as built by Fisher to contain my budget. Top notch work Cody.

Did you actually have to massage things much to get the trim to line up? Create new holes maybe? Or was it lining up pretty well from the get-go?
Seems like most of the decklid trim pieces I see (including mine of course) hang low compared to the cove corner trim pieces. Even when the hoods themselves seem pretty well lined up.

Love seeing one that is straight across and lined up!

Paul,

All that was really needed was to reposition the driver's quarter outward and re work the outer drivers side of the tail panel. I just wanted to be sure I had the quarter in its correct position before I weld it on.

The entire top, front, rocker panel, lower battery box, and wheel opening are all welded in place. Next will be replacing the section of tail panel below the bumper and welding up the cove area

What surprised me most, going through some old posts the other night, I learned that Cody is only 30 years old. I assumed he was an old fart like the rest of us.

I Am an old fart now though! Ha. Now the secret is out for all the new folks that didnt know me back in the good ol' days

Tonight brings test fitting the new section for the rear panel, along with checking grill fit etc to be sure position is correct. The rearmost vertical seams and this replacement panel are all that needs to be welded on the exterior body!

Wow, what a journey! That car has been through the wringer but now in Cody's capable hands it's getting properly brought back on literally every body panel. I can't say enough about Cody, his skill, and his enthusiasm through the process.smileys with beer

Thanks Craig! And thank you for lettimg me be a part of this journey!

Today I got the cove section of the quarter welded up and fitted the new lower tail panel. The inside and outside are welded in, now I need to trim across the top of the new panel to form a butt joint and fully weld that, but I have reached my limit of concrete floor kneeling/laying for the day

Progress has been slow, but I got the rear lower panel excess trimmed and butt welded in place. Made and welded in a small patch panel for the outer bumper bracket area, fit and welded the upper quarter to the rear panel, and also welded up the non original and stripped out holes in the engine bay. Installed engine lid bunpers to check the fit, the deck lid will need just a minor amount of massaging. Next will be to reinstall all the cove trim, finalize the metalwork on the drivers taillight panel for best fit and finish and grind down all the welds. Getting closer!

Been too busy lately but finally had a free evening for some progress! I had to massage both corners of the deck lid around the bumpers to get the fit right. Re drilled holes for the 140 badge. And bodywork begun on the rear panel. The deck lid gap also needed a little extra to be acceptable so I began adding to the edge. Deck lid bodywork and final fit to the quarters are next on the list!
