Need Part 4-Primary Carb Linkage
Posted by: BobV66Vair ()
Date: February 27, 2018 12:52PM

I am changing my 140 to use four primary carbs. I want them to all sync together, not act as primary and secondary. I have seen a small piece of linkage that can attach the throttle shafts together. This avoids a lot of complicated linkage between the carbs. it is basically shaped like a circle with some holes for attachment.

That's the ticket Seth. Now I just need to measure the shaft size for the throttle shafts and see if I can figure out how to attach them.

Thanks,

Thanks Jeff. I'll ask him. Thanks to Seth, I have found some new pieces that look like what I need but I do not know the precise specs of the part I need and I am hesitant to buy them at $20 each to guess.

Bob The throttle shafts are .312" or 5/16".

Thanks Steve. The ones for sale on EBay are 3/16" so useless. Seth sent a link to the place that makes them. I contacted a dealer to try to get some that will fit the 5/16" shafts. Bob Slusher had some that connected to the throttle shafts between the carbs. He said that may require longer shafts. Maybe turbo shafts?

Turbo shafts are not close. As mentioned above the pieces made by OTTO/CROWN are easiest. I am looking at CROWN catalog #17 right now pg 22 part #5042. Pieces clamped around throttle shaft. A tongue in groove type of design clamped the two shafts together. I had one of the sets but sold it several years ago and haven't seen others. Probably best to follow the lead above to Dave Kostich.

best wishes, Steve

I recently got the old Crown set up from Dave Kostich that he makes. The same set that jbyenko77 mentioned. That is the route I would go.

Idling on all 4 is one thing but will coming off idle with all 4 simultaneously rather than Primary/Secondary make for poor driveability at low RPMs? Spit up through the carbs sort of a thing? I don't know, I'm just asking.

Clark's now sells connectors for this application. New items for them. They may be made by Dave. I ordered a pair. I'll post in a new thread how they work.

My race motor with a big cam on the test stand takes all four carbs off idle easily, i would think the stock bore carbs would be fine, four accell pumps help.

PS - I am pretty sure that was Dave sending the info. No claims here. Dave Kostich does some good work.

Yes, it is Dave who makes them for Clark's. He called me last night (classy thing to do) and said that Clark's includes basic instructions but if I needed any help synchronizing them, give him a call. Man, Corvair people are the best. Try asking for help from another Porsche owner.

Bob:

I have a set of those Crown connectors and I am just down the mountain. But neither of us can drive right now.
