1966 options installation manual
Posted by: scottymac ()

I just ordered a reproduction 1966 Chevy options installation manual from Amazon. Price was $26 plus shipping. There was a discussion earlier about where the '66 emergency brake warning light should be installed, hoping this provides the answer.

Funny you should mention this book. If you want to thank someone for it being available at all (until it was reprinted, it was not known to even exist), then thank Kent Sullivan for knowing the '66 Chevy "expert" who thought it didn't exist, and (Kent) being surprised when, in casual conversation with him (Kent), I told him of its existence.

And especially thank Mike McKeel for having found it in the first place. (Proving that even a blind squirrel does occasionally find a nut.) I connected Kent to the book, the Chevy expert crapped his pants, and the rest is history.grinning smiley

I have seen the 1965 and 1966 instruction sheet for the emergency brake warning
light. The 1965 sheet confirms the light is still mounted under the dash, however, the 1966 sheet confirms you must drill a hole thru the dash in the area
of the wiper switch (exact location given in sheet) for the correct mounting
location. I never had a copy of the 1966 instruction sheet. I did see the NOS
light kit on ebay about a year ago with an image of the 1966 instruction sheet
which was dated for 1966 to confirm such. I probably would have bought the 1966 NOS emergency brake warning light if it reflected the light mounting area was in
the same area as the 1965. No, I am not drilling a hole in my 1966 Corsa dash
just to add this option!

Mark,
Thanks for your part in making this available. I'm hoping to find a few answers on other options, as well as the light. Still trying to get things together so you can do a window sticker for me.

John,
Here's the link:

Dan,
Thanks for the correction, figured everyone would know what I meant.

Tom I have an orignal copy of the 1966 Chevrolet Accessories Installation Manual (all models sold by Chevrolet) and on page 470 Item 986209 shows the lamps and bracket for the e-brake mounted under the dash - same as in 1965.

I suspect the kit you saw was 986627 for the ChevyII that mounts the light in a hole that must be drilled next to the wiper switch.

Scott,

Now everyone knows "the rest of the story." I've always figured that information is useless unless it's shared, and when I found out that even an "expert" on the subject thought the information didn't exist, I made sure it got out for all to benefit. Just happy to see that others can now make use of the documents. grinning smiley
