Selecting the right 10W-30 oil

When you want to purchase 10W-30 oil for your Corvair, it's hard to know those oils that meet the desired phosphorus levels. So here are my recommendations.

As Richard1 has suggested look for either CI-4 or CJ-4 in the API donut.

But as these oils are being phased out, you can now look for the 10W-30 container that has CK-4 in the top of the donut.

But you DO NOT want any oil that has CK-4/SN in the donut since this oil has insufficient Phos.

Yes, it seems like a small difference....that SN after the CK-4, but it makes a world of difference.

Or you can let the Ford Motor Co. pick an oil for you. their current listing of commonly found brands is:::::

Shell Rotella T4 10W-30 Triple Protection,
Shell Rotella T5 10W-30 Synthetic Blend,
Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 Full Synthetic.
Motorcraft 10W-30 Super Duty Diesel oil
Motorcraft 5W-40 Full Synthetic Diesel oil
Motorcraft 10W-30 Super Duty Diesel oil

I use Motorcraft 10-30 diesel oil, Caterpillar 10-30, or Shell Rotella T5 with no adverse results. I buy oil only when on sale cause it ain't cheap. Good though.

Are the Motorcraft 10W-30 Super Duty diesel oils listed 4th and 6th on the list meant to be different, maybe one is a Full Synthetic, the other dino or a blend?
