Yet we can't fund the government for more than a few weeks at a time.

Oh yeah, the government had nothing to do with it!!

Can anybody explain why there are no stars in the background of any Tesla in space pictures?

At least MotoHead's has a Star in it! smoking smiley

Astrological stars are too dim to show in a photo which has much brighter objects in the field.

It would take a longer shutter speed and a larger aperature to see stars in a photo. If they were visible, the brighter objects would be completely overexposed.

I like Dave's answer better.

But I might be a little biased.

Dad worked on three Apollo missions.

Saturn V is still king of the hill.

Falcon Heavy is bad ass but in second.

Gentlemen,

Have we forgotten?

This is only the 4th and CHEAPEST car in space. Besides, the other 3 actually worked in space. Nobody will ever drive the Tesla.

I can see it now. First traffic accident in space when that car runs into a satellite.

Did the car have batteries in it so it could be driven when it was found on Mars? Oh, that's right, batteries not included. Jim

Reminds me of the opening scenes from "Heavy Metal" the movie.
But, I am sure that is exactly why they stuck the fake spaceman in there.

On a side note, can you imagine what the Barrett Jackson selling price would be on "The only car to have orbited the Sun" if Elon could ever retrieve it ? ? ?
Talk about having a ONE OF A KIND ! ! !
"Oh Yeah, what kind of provenance does your car have?"

Of course, I do not know how much of it will actually remain after being exposed to all of that direct UV, and flying Micro-meteors and such.
Still, fun to think about.

The only car I ever recall seeing flight time with any regularity was an Orange Dodge Charger with a confederate flag on the roof and a big old 01 on the doors.grinning smiley

It was an amazing car too....during many landings the front fenders and sometimes the 1/4 panels would clearly buckle but moments later they were perfectly straight again.confused smiley

Looking at the orbit pattern's.... it looks like the Tesla has a chance of landing "crashing" on Mars. So when we finally go there... there will already be an UBER waiting!

By the way.. my Greenbrier is already up there!
