BTW: This is Seth's fault...I've been paying attention to Hewland prices ever since he brought it up awhile back.

Pretty. I need to buy a whole car for the price though. I envy the person who can afford and use it. Adopt me!

Perhaps the advent of the new, mid-engined Corvette will provide another option for the Mid-engined Corvair builder. Is it wrong to hope for a few of the early C8 buyers to T-bone a tree and create donation vehicles?

Yes...as long as those C8 buyers live to tell us about it when we answer the craigslist ad.

Such a cool setup. It would be way to easy to overpower the car with setup behind your seat...

For a while I had considered using one of these transaxles mated to a 3.5 V6 but due to reality and ECM, TCM availability, that idea went out the window.

The best thing this unit has going for it is that I think it would fit well for the Mid Engine application.

OH, Yeah....it is a 1997 to 2002 Chrysler/Plymouth Prowler Transaxle.

Thats a 42LE which was used in the 93-04 Chrysler LH platform. It is a rather light duty transmission based on the A604/41TE.
I do know someone local that put a 4.0 liter Olds Aurora V8 in front of one but I do not know if he ever got the car running.

There's a bunch of Hewlands out there with the old Northstar bolt pattern, could build a really slick car.

Too many to list

So far the transmission I have in this toy seems to work well for my needs.grinning smiley
Unfortunately, it is also the reason my Corvair isn't further along than it is.confused smiley

Jonathan - Why would there be a bunch of Hewlands with Northstar pattern? Leftovers from some series?

I think a Narrowed C5 rear cradle is the most cost effective modern rear suspension. Move the engine back and use the Boxster or Caymen Trans axle and if you Dont mind the Crown leg room, a Jerico with a C5 Diff or a PG.Both capable of tire burning abuse ! which seems to be a major issue with any of the other setups (of course not the Super Vair) Mike
