Anyone know what these Orig Corvair moon hubcaps fit
Posted by: red monza ()

About a month ago, I was outside cleaning on my "new" 64 yellow conv...a black guy who lives close by I think stopped, handed me a box of corvair hubcaps and said they would look nice on my 64 and just drove off...I said " thank you".

They are in pretty good shape, a few little minor dings or so. I doubt anyone would even notice once on the car..they are 9 inches or 9 1/16 inch space on the back side.

What year? or vehicle? and what would they be worth?

Thanks

Separation between 60 and 61 I believe is in the depth. I seem to recall 60's being taller ( deeper).

I bought a set of NOS Caps and Beauty Rings for a project, they would not fit the standard 13 inch wheel. Had to find a set of early wheels 60/61 with the knubs. Planning to use on my 63 Sedan as I like the look of the wheels with these style caps with the bow tie beauty rings.

These are 2 inches deep...guess I will list them on Ebay or facebook in a couple of days...also have a set of plain baby moons that came on my 64...they are off now also....I have never done a clock hubcap but these look like they would make a great garage clock...keep one and sell the other three....the "Chevrolet" "Corvair" in the center would look really nice.

A clock is exactly what I was thinking but then I don't have hubcaps on any of my cars, not my thing.

Thanks all for replying from everyone....at least I know they are 60 or 61's. Some one I know wants them and are looking for them.

Don, if they don't sell, I guess I will make a clock out of them...maybe a Maggie Valley thing...I just hope we have another great show like this past Oct.

There are lot of those around. Many even in NOS condition since they only fit the 60-61 wheels. The owner with the 62 wagon I am rebuilding thought he was going to use a set he had on it. Not going to fit on his nicely powdercoated 62 wheels, so I rustled up a set of 62 style hubcaps since he likes hubcaps not wheel covers

Those 61's. 60's dont have the step. They will only work on 61 wheels, not the 60's.

I was thinking they would fit later than 61 wheels too, I was thinking the outside nubs for trim rings was the difference in the wheels. I might be wrong and would appreciate a follow up from someone in the know.
I love those poverty wheel covers with the wheels matching the body or a complimentary color, especially with small trim rings.

They will not fit later wheels they are too small in diameter. They miss going over the nubs around the center of the wheel by 1/4". The 62 style hubcaps with the colored Chevrolet emblem in the middle measure 9 1/4" or so these measure 9"

Those hubcaps will fit both 1960 & 1961 wheels only (with nubs).

The nubs on the wheels are to retain the Chevy bowtie trim rings which go with the hubcaps on 700 series cars.

Both the 1960 & 1961 hubcaps have a the ridge but the 1960 caps are taller than the 1961 caps (I've read they shortened the 1961 hubcap for curb clearance).

In short, other than the height both 1960 & 1961 hubcaps are identical in design and fit.
