Wonder if the factory sponsored the exhibit?

Nov. 1960, Detroit Auto Show.

Looks like A Desoto sign on the far wall. '61 was the last year for Desoto and the first year for the Greenbrier. Looks like cut-away '61 Chevy truck in this photo.

It looks like it would have been fun to attend an auto show in the 1950's and 1960's. I attended an new car auto show in DFW last year and what a disappointment. My wife and I were bored and looking for something to do, so we decided to go. There was nothing special about it at all. We spent $20 for tickets plus $6 for parking. We probably would have been better off just going to a car dealership and walking around.

My father worked for Bardahl Oil in 1960 and took my brother and I to the International Auto Show in New York that year. Quite a revalation...changed my interest from model airplanes to cars !

Went to the New York show in 65? when the XKE Jaguar was debuted. A really great show with fascinating cars. I seem to remember a Corvair limo from Last Cause(?) Motor Co. painted black with all the chrome also blacked out.

David, The XKE was debuted in '61! Most likely at this show!

The XKE 4.2 came out in 65 as a 66 M/Y. A much superior engine than the 3.8 with the 3 SU carburetors. These are great pictures. I see "standing room only".
I was told that when the new cars came to the dealerships it was quite a festive event back in the day.

Yes, remember,..... that was before 500 channel cable TV, and internet.

You're correct must have been 61. Thinking back I was in the Army in 65 and didn't make it to the show.
