What is up with Clark's head numbers lists?

1965-66.....140.....3856727, 3856728, 3878565, 3878570,
(no smog)...........3883861, 3883864, 3883820

1966-69.....140.....3856728, 3885165, 3878570
(smog)

A smog head has NO, Nada, Zero, Zilch, quench area.
Correct?

Okay, so one knowledgeable member has been kind enough to correct my ignorance on 140 quench area.
Yes, 140 smog heads do have a "squish" area.
So, If Clark's lists the same part numbers as smog, & non-smog.
And 140 smog heads have a "squish", then just what is the real difference between 140 smog heads, and 140 non-smog heads?

I have "searched" both here and outside of CCF, and have not found an answer.
I understand that it has been discussed "many times here", but?
Probably not wording my search correctly?

Never understood why 65 heads were grouped in with 66-69 heads either. The top shroud bolt sizes are different. Yeah everything else will be correct but if you have A/C that can be an issue. Seems like they made more 65 140 heads than the other 3.5 years combined.
