Help with doing a v6 conversion
Posted by: Bailey8596 ()

I just got a v6 4.3 well running engine outta an s10 and I saw a conversion. And I just wanted to know everything required to do this if major welding needs to be done and what things I'd need to bolt the engine up to the Corvair trans. I know about the marine reverse cam. But not really ever done something like this but want a corvair with the ability to make good horsepower.

If you are planning on bolting to a Corvair transaxle, your biggest obstacle will be getting the bell housing adapter which is no longer produced by anyone. Second would be reversing the rotation of the engine to match the Corvair engine direction of rotation.

Does your 4.3 V6 have the balance shaft?
1992 was the year they redesigned the block with the balance shaft located in the lifter gallery.
Balance shaft engines do not have provisions for a mechanical fuel pump.
If it has a balance shaft, it can't be reverse rotated unless the shaft is removed.

For a cheap power increase, look for a set of Vortec heads found in 96 and above vehicles.
