Stock question: Door hinges painting detail
Posted by: Vin ()
Date: January 26, 2018 07:41PM

I bought a reproduction hinge from one of our vendors to replace the driver side hinge on my 65 convertible (was missing door return spring and someone used bolts to replace worn pins/bishings). My question is about painting the hinge. Originally, were the spring, pins and bushings all painted body color right along with the hinge, or was the hinge painted body color and then the bushings, pins and return spring installed afterwards such that those parts do not get painted? My car had a respray and the springs and pins were all painted, but i dont know if that is how it was originally. Thanks for any insight.

Hello Vin,

Lower front door hinge on an original paint 1967 500. Doors and hinges look to be painted on the car.

Yes appear to be painted on the car with little or no paint on areas like the back of the springs.

Awesome - thanks to each of you for the responses and insight. Sounds like since they were painted on the car the pins and spring will be painted too. And if I don't get full and even coverage on the spring that would just be a stock look! Got my ermine white in a spray can on order! Thanks
