We seem to be seeing a large influx of cars with California plates. Lets hope when they move here for lower property taxes and cost of living that they leave their socialist voting habits behind or we will be on the same stupid train with them. Our registration fees even if they go up a bit will still be cheaper than California and while Texas has even lower registration rates their property taxes are about double what we pay here. I do not think there is a sales tax there and schools have to be funded somehow.

I am with Seth, love living in California.

Complaining about a $38/ year increase in DMV fees I petty. That is less than the cost of 11 gallons of gas.

Property taxes are 1/4 of the rate in Texas and the weather sucks in Texas.

I'm with Seth. I like the Calif. weather and fact is I have friends in Ohio and Texas that pay thousands more a year in property taxes than I do!!

That little bump in DMV fees is nothing.

Stop the Presses! People in Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma and Washington State don't like the way California is run. You are certainly welcome to your beliefs and opinions. By the way, California has gained population based on legal immigration and birthrate numbers. If you do not like it here, you are free to leave. That's what is so great about America.

Not trying to pick on you, just the thought in general.
This kind of thinking, while it may correct on this one issue, is EXACTLY what the politicians count on.

The problem is, when multiplied by every little pet project & entitlement program, they are slowly bleeding the working class dry.

It is death by a thousand paper cuts ! ! !

When do you stand-up and say, "ENOUGH ! ! !"???

In Texas we pay 8.125% sales tax, we pay 0.000000000000000000000 % income tax. Vehicle registration is $55.00/yr for my daily drivers and $55.00 for 5 years on the Vair with antique tags, the motorcycle is $35.00/year. I'm paying 2.6% in property taxes, that doesn't seem that high to me.

Anybody else want to take a stab at Texas being too high you better bring some real numbers to the fight.

Actually they are the same.... for WHAT a Family pays for similar housing..

Son had a $200k home in Waxahachie... $2800 / 2009-12 [ taxes depend on School taxes ]

$400k in Socal $5600 /2012-present... both properties had 1 acre... 2k sq. ft. home and Shop...both "just outside of town".

And Yes... sadly they sold the Grandfathered Prop 13 home with $1100 per year taxes.... but $710k in 2008..hard to pass up instead of renting it out..

Bringing cars into Texas is Expensive!! Cost them over $900 plus Reg. fees for 3 vehicles..

Texas has no INCOME tax [ why I own some lots there ]...ggg

And YES.. the weather SUCKS or at least changes dramatically! Quickly!

I too could complain about the crazy socialist government here in Kalyphornya.
Many times I do. But for me I fully admit I'm jaded to the So. Kalyf weather year round. Sure I have to pay for it and deal with all the screw-ball politics here. It's a one party out of control and corrupted state. People here need to wake up! But I feel some of us have to stay here and try to spark a balance. Besides... I like having to mow my lawn in the dead of winter...... unless they outlaw my gas powered mower! And here in Kalyf anything is a po$$ibility!

I've been here most of my life and am hanging in here for now. The big fires, mud slides and earthquakes still make it worth staying. And here I am a Up-State New York born native!!!eye rolling smiley

By the way... I say no one who has came to this country "illegally" is an immigrant. Unless we start calling people who break into our homes... house guests!

And that's as political as I will get on a forum!

8 months of the year it is pretty nice in Texas. The other 4 months is what AC is for. By the way, Texas has its own electrical grid that is not connected to the reast of the country. We pay 7.9 cents per Kwh. What do you pay in California?

Our NC vehicle tags etc were also raised 21%....probably in every state...the states are now GETTING LESS funds from Washington like they used to years ago.

So, when the state's income is cut....someone has to make up the difference to have government keep going....hence...higher car fees...and then cities also raise their taxes as they are not getting the same percentage they used to get...

CONCLUSION: When Washington cuts its INCOME, say income taxes for example, they have less to spend...STATES get less...when State's get less...City's get less...and WE, YES WE, GET THE BILL.

It's that simple.

First tier for SoCal Edison is about 17c/kwh. You should have seen what it was when the Texans had a hold of the grid...

Seth:

You missed it. Those of us in Arizona Texas, New Mexico are already elsewhere and for the most part don't want to be in California with its huge population slow traffic and high costs not to mention I have been a hunter and your gun laws are beyond ridiculous.

Two coolers that hold food on Air Force ONE need replacing...the bill...$24,000,000.00...that is 24 million.

These days when states like Ca and NY send in their $$$$$ to Washington, those two states do not get back what they pay in...part of their money that should be returned goes to Mississippi, Alabama, and other poor states in the south....you guys might want to complain about supporting those poor states.

Or Maybe we should complain about the politicians in Washington sending billions to terrorist countries who want to kill us?

$38 may seem petty to some but it isn't petty in the scheme of things for us. A 30% increase over a year ago and then multiply that by 4 vehicles. Add that to all the other things going up exponentially in cost, healthcare for one, and it adds up. There was a time when I would have thought $38 was petty but not anymore. A splurge for us is going camping on occasion.

Surviving on a single income, averaging a daily commute to work of 3+ hours and paying for the fuel/insurance to do that, paying for homeschooling because the schools in our area teach what we don't what our child taught and on top of that, they are a rough environment due to the area we live in, high energy prices, high food costs, high local taxes, high bridge tolls etc. You get the picture.

Not all of us are in the same situation in life as others or the "Got Rocks" but we try to live the best we can with what we have. 30% increases in a single year for things is a biggie to us. Huge tax increases hit us hard. Just saying. smiling smiley

South Carolina gets $7.87 cents for every tax dollar they send to Washington...and yes, Ok pays more than it gets back...this is an interesting article about states...food stamp states, etc...

Delaware gets back less than any state in America...its like 50 cents back for every dollar they send to Washington...now there is a complaint.
