Never realized they made one for a Corvair. Overkill for me.

A number of these geared torque starters don't have the provision for the coil ballast wire by-pass. A power diode and wiring can be added to fix that.

Some of the less expensive geared starters have cheap reduction gears that don't last and make a whining noise.

I decided to stay with the stock starter, more than adequate.

I love my too. Got it from our large west coast Corvair vendor.
Been working great since 2014.
It was a snap to install and didn't need any special wiring.

I like mine, too -- especially with a 10.5 CR.

I've been using one of those since 2004. I put mine on mostly for weight reduction, but the other was to have a brand new starter with all new parts.
It has lasted much longer than any of the rebuilt starters that I'd previously used.

Everything but the Bellhousing mount is identical to a Toyota T100 truck. I bought one for 80 dollars to use for parts to fix mine.I have a post on here somewhere.

I bought one from Clark's almost 20 years ago, I'm sure it didn't cost that much, it has always worked well and was easy to install I think, it's hard to remember when a part lasts 20 years.

These are great units and they work. Especially when you need the flexibility to use for a Corvair/VW conversion. No more bushings to adjust and not be correct with starter binding.

Anyway, I never could justify the cost outlay when my stock starters worked just fine with 10-1 PLUS compression on the race car. A 3 pound difference wasn't going to make me faster! LOL

I've had mine installed for probably 10 years and love it.

3 lbs might not make you faster but makes a difference when laying on your back holding it above your head to install it smiling smiley
