What are these items?
Posted by: Lane66m ()
Date: January 24, 2018 08:34AM

I got these items in the bins I picked up in a Corvair parts purchase.

I have no idea what they are or what they used on. One looks like a mount for a test stand to space out the starter properly.

Anybody got any thoughts on them?

Bottom looks like a homemade wheel adapter?

Flange...early Turbo outlet? How big is the hole?

I'll get the measurement when I get home.

Right now Donna and I are enjoying lunch at Cracker Barrel. We didn't get breakfast as we had to be to Dr.s due to having colds again. Steroid and antibiotic shots in the buttocks again. 3 times in a month. We are pin cushions.

I don't recognize any to be Corvair parts. The middle looks like either an exhaust flange or possibly cooling system flange(?). The Corvair turbo flange would be with 3 holes.

The middle flange has a 2 1/2" id.

the bottom is 3/4" thick. Is it possible this is something someone designed to run a accessory off a Vair crank shaft PTO style like a prop-fan for a Florida Glades air boat.

Back to top photo, maybe the same thoughts for an air boat. These parts did come from Florida near the wetlands. Then again lots of wetlands down there.

If anyone has a use for them, PM me.

I'm gonna go with a crankshaft propeller mount adaptor on the last picture.

I think Rod is onto it regarding the first two pictures.
That second picture resembles the VW to Corvair starter adapter.
It is a little thin, but when combined with the (supposed) mount above it, it would be about right.
And possibly a propeller adapter?
So, do we have a set of parts for putting a Corvair engine into an air-boat, or airplane?

Wow. Scratching the bottom for the jokes on this thread.

Anyway, has anyone got any use for these three parts? If not the 5 inch steel disc becomes an small bench anvil and the other pieces go to China.

its for a corvair powered airboat. the top 2 pics are for the VW starter conversion and the hub is the propeller hub.

back in the 70's a company called banks maxwell made conversion kits to mount corvair motors on airboat.
