65-66 E brake blinking warning lamp found.

Years ago I bought a NOS emergency brake warning lamp for my 66 that bolts up under the dash. Yeah I know - not really needed, but I had one in another car years ago and folks always liked it. A good conversation starter at shows.

I finally got around to installing it now that the car is almost finished.

I wondered what made the bulb flash on and off. I found out the bulb has a bi-metal strip inside the glass envelope that opens and closes as it heats/cools to make the bulb blink!!!

After some research I found Clark's sells the bulb to install in the "idiot" lights so they will blink, but now I know it also works in the the optional E-brake lamp.

Clark's part number is C7585

I have heard that the e brake bulb unit on a 1965 Corvair is mounted below the dash but on the 1966-69 Corvair a hole must be drilled thru the dash in the area of the light switch where it is then mounted. This would be per the NOS
mounting instruction sheet that comes with the unit. Anyone familiar with
this change?

On a 69 at least, and perhaps all the factory dual master cyl. cars, the e brake warning lamp is built into the dash between the generator/fan temp/press lights

67-69 does have a pin switch similar to the door jamb pin switch for the dome light to operate the standard brake warning light.
The parking brake handle is different on the 67-69 as it has a captured tab riveted to the handle for the pin switch to contact.

Did you verify that the bulb that Clark's sells will fit into the 65-66 accessory lamp housing? I found that the bulb must have a very small glass housing to fit into it.

Lee - correct the 67-69 hand brake had the switch that was similar, but different construction compared to the NOS add on kit for 65-66.

Matt - I haven't look at the schematics, but it is my understanding that BOTH the dual master warning switch AND the had brake could illuminate the Monza fuel gas face plate brake warning lamp.

Lee - The Clark's bulb picture looks correct. The bulbs are in route. If they don't fit I'll let you know.

Regards.

Lee - Clark's order arrive. Their bulbs are the same size as the one in NOS assembly. I'll drop a PM to you in case you don't see this.
