Body Metal Gage

Anyone know for sure what the gage of the C66 Corvair body is? I have heard 20 and 16 and thins in between. I am talking about the lower fenders, the upper-front fenders, doors etc. Not rockers. Before I finalize a welder, I need to get some sheet metal to practice on.

By measurements I'm pretty certain it's 19 GA so really hard to find. I use 20 GA for most but 18 in undercarriage areas and floor work. 20 is way easier to form than 18(esp compound curves and shrinking . The new 20 welds in nice w/ the aged 19 w/o blowing holes but you need to be careful w/ new 18 into the old metal and still get good penetration/ joining. (with sheet it's not so much a penetration thing but a "wetting" thing and how much crown you have in the weld. There's a lot by nature in MIG (high deposition) but by controlling speed and current you can get beads (stitches) pretty flat. Too much and there's a hole to fill.) Such is the learning curve.
