hey guys, I just received a new speedometer cable in the mail from clarks for my 61 Rampside. Am I supposed to lubricate this before installation ? If so, what is the recommended lubricant? Thank you for responding.

Usually they are lubricated at the factory. If it is dry, then wipe it with white lithium grease, and very very sparingly. You can also put a dab on the threads and end of the cable where it connects to the speedometer adapter on the transmission. You don't want any oil or grease coming in contact with the speedometer head. Grease or oil at the speedometer head will migrate into the speedometer works, and cause you to have inaccuracies in your speed, and will eventually lead to a speedometer head failure.

Good advice from junkman. You might also want to pose these questions to Clarks (since they are your vendor and may have certain suggestions or requirements for a successful installation).
