Anyone know if this stretched Lakewood is still around. Found this clipping in the stuff I got with my wagon.

I've been piddling with Corvairs for over 40 years and never have even seen a picture of that Lakewood limo before. That's cool. It appears to have been made from a '61 vs. a '62 wagon since it has all the '61 trim including the Lakewood emblems on the rear fenders. It would be neat with bucket seats in the center row, or leave the center row seats out for extra leg room.

That looks like an "Airport" car, not a Limo. Airport cars were taxis with more doors. There was a '56 Chevy wagon Airport car I rode in downtown Richmond as a child. It was in service at a parking garage serving downtown businesses.

An Airport car has typical bench seats, so a 6 door airport car has three bench seats, an 8 door has four bench seats. No limo creature comforts!winking smiley

I too do not recall that picture. Any more to the picture? Like when and where or name of show?

Yeah, if it had one of those big ugly roof racks that extended from the windshield to the tailgate it would be a bona fide airport limo. Might need a 3.89 differential to get it moving once loaded with up to nine people and their luggage.

I've attached all I have, front and back of the entire clip, to stimulate your grey cells. My SWAG is that the pic is from the Old Cars Weekly coverage of the 1977 Iola Car Show.

Enjoy!

Pretty sure this may be the Lakewood 7 door built by John Bolander from Seattle area.

If it is, it still exists and needs to be rescued!!!

Anyone interested in this project, please send me a PM...thumbs up

Seeing the Iola, Wisc address on the advertisement I will guess the publication is OLD CARS WEEKLY. Have no idea about date however.

Looking at the print on the lower portion of the page under the photo where you see " November 11, 12 4th Annual Orlando, Florida"
You will see another item below to the left that says:
"Call Toll Free For Complete 1978 Catalog"

With that in mind, I will guess the Magazine was from late 1977 or early 1978 but I could be wrong.

Good eye Andria, now to find someone who has saved issues of the newspaper all these years.

I imagine that IF someone had enough enthusiasm and energy, they could contact Old Cars Weekly and inquire to see if there is an archive of this article available. Just a thought [www.oldcarsweekly.com]

Here is a link for their "Contact" page. [www.oldcarsweekly.com]

I have a collection of Old Car Weekly, from issue 1 but I don't know how far forward they are. Will check tomorrow. Paper quality isn't that good, so I haven't looked at them for over a decade.

The stretched Lakewood, the shortened convertible, and other cars were featured in Old Cars' coverage of the 1978 CORSA Convention in San Diego, which is where the photos were taken.

The Hudson and Marshall auction ad mentions their 1978 catalog. Incidentally, I sold my reverse-rotation Corvair Powered Kellison GT40K at a Hudson and Marshall auction in Atlanta.

I'm still searching. If there was an index, it would make it a lot easier. I am going to call OCW to see if they have an index of stories to issues.

Interesting hint. There is indeed a picture of each car in the Sept 78 Corsa Communique, but no additional info there.

I seem to remember it. Then Steve mentioned the San Diego CORSA Convention it really seems familiar! I remember thinking that would need a football field to make a U-turn!

I'll have to really dig to see if I have the communique and perhaps some pictures of my own from attending that convention!
