What is wrong with my Carb?
Posted by: American Mel ()

So, I was messing with my distributor today and ran into something strange.
I had the distributor out and noticed a drop of something just hanging on the lip of the vacuum port.
I wiped it off and another drop appeared.
So I proceeded to tap the vacuum advance against my hand and more than 1 teaspoonful of GAS came out of it ! ? ! ? confused smiley
I am assuming it came from the carb as that is the only thing it is connected to.
Why is raw fuel in the vacuum line, and how did it get all the way into the vacuum advance?
I am guessing it is time for a carb rebuild, eh?

Mel,
Is the Vacuum line at the carb plugged into the vertical port?

The horizontal port connects to the Vacuum motor for the Choke plate.

Matt, yes fresh gas.

Dan, how did you know?
Yes, they were reversed. I just read on another post as to which ports were which and then you responded with that question.
But even so, how would that much gas get into the vacuum advance?gas

Mel,
I have found if your plugged in down by the base if the carb base gasket over hangs at all it will catch gas and fill your port.

Solid liquid fuel will flow downhill. They put the vertical port to keep the gas from making its way down the line...

You should need to change your timing when you switch. The port for the choke pull of has vacuum at idle advancing the timing.

I set the timing yesterday with the vacuum disconnected, so that should not be an issue.
