Another Extremely Rare 4cyl 1965 Corsa Sold $25k
Posted by: croderique ()
Date: January 15, 2018 06:30PM

Saw this today at Barrett-Jackson.
The owner should have checked the listing. The sign in front says it is a 6cyl with 4x 1bbl and 140hp. Hope they get it corrected before it goes thru the auction tomorrow.

Nice looking car, but a shame they chose to just strip the paint off and polish the instrument cluster.

Yes, a VERY nice looking car!
But the dash is not the only thing.
That rear cove is NOT Argent.
It is a darker shade of Gray, and it is painted in a HIGH gloss.
BUT, you got to give them credit for hunting down that original "spread tire" ! ! ! eye rolling smiley
Oh, and a all-season one at that ! winking smiley

Tell me, why do dumb people keep referring to a Corvair restoration as "Pan-up" ? ? ?
As far as I know, VW's are the only thing with PANS !

Quote from web posting.
"This Corvair Corsa underwent a high-quality, pan-up restoration to its original specifications and appearance down to the spread tire and the washer bottle. The original, born-with 164ci 4-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual transmission were rebuilt and it has a rebuilt transaxle, new exhaust, carburetors and wires. It was finished in new paint throughout, with a new factory interior that features factory Rally gauges and tachometer and a hidden glove box stereo. This stock appearance show car includes its original spoke wheel covers and restoration receipts totaling over $25,000."

4 cylinder Corvairs are actually pretty common. I've never seen one in person and none of my 64 are but I see them for sale often.

thumbs upthumbs upgrinning smiley

.

Appears to have a Clark's oil pan on it.thumbs up
But that rear bumper is sitting at a pretty bad angle for a freshly restored car.thumbs down

"This Corvair Corsa underwent a high-quality, pan-up restoration to its original specifications and appearance down to the spread tire and the washer bottle."
Why even say that?
Just call it a very mild resto-custom.
It would be extremely more HONEST ! ! !

It can’t be a 4 sp. Didn’t all 4 cyl versions come with a turbo 400 automatic? They were called Spyders or Corsa, because something was turboed. It was the transmission that was turboed, now I get it.

I believe the "spread tire" in it's rarity contributed to the $25k selling price!

And this went across the auction block at Barret Jackson? They are usually good about their catalog being accurate. At least that means our high quality cars are worth more, right?

Shouldn't be any remorse - getting 6 Cylinders for the price of 4!

I saw the car today. The paint is flawless - just beautiful. Otherwise, it's a run-of-the mill 65 Corsa. Guessing the paint is worth $10K.

My favorite part of seeing the car was just standing near it and listening to the stories being told. Usually two or three men standing together, and one of them is the "expert". LOL!

LOL!

That gives me an idea.
Someone should plant a hidden mic. on a Corvair at local car shows and record some of the "stories, legends, and utter misconceptions" spouted off by unsuspecting know-it-alls!
