Judson with 4 Barrel Carb?
Posted by: alexanderwoelfel ()

Hey everyone,

I noticed my Judson came with a 4 barrel adapter from the previous owner. Has anyone used a Judson with a 4 barrel carburetor? Just looking to see if anyone had experience with it. Curious to hear about your results. I have the 2 barrel for it but I wondered how it would work with a 4 barrel.

Best,
Alex

That is interesting. could you post a picture of the adaptor? So few of us Judson owners have had a chance to really run them. Seems like it could not hurt to try.

Sure thing. Here is a shot of the adapter.

I was thinking something like a Holley 390 cfm.

Considering that Judsons are definitely unique and somewhat rare, I think it would be great if all Vair owners who are running Judsons would post some pictures.
I think it would be a great thread and be interesting to see if different people did anything outside the box with their individual set-up!
Just my thoughts.
I don't know if it would be of interest to anyone else. ? ? ?

Yeah I think that would great to have a Judson thread. Id like to see an EFI setup with a Judson.

My ultimate goal would be to run dual Judsons with EFI. I think that would be a cool engine. I know there are better ways for more power but it would be such a cool looking setup.

Your picture was not up yet when I started writing my last post.
I am guessing that it is a part of the actual blower, and you would not want to ruin it for possibly going back to a 2-barrel in the future, but .....
I think it would breath better with the 4-barrel if that center bridge were cut out.
It would greatly increase to intake volume.

That is just my humble opinion, and opinions are like belly-buttons, everyone has one and thinks theirs is the best!
I would check with actual Judson owners first though.

Yeah, I was wondering if it would perform better with more intake volume. I know the Judsons don’t make a ton of boost but with a 4 barrel I thought it might bring it up 1-2 psi. I have a Holley 2110 2 barrel for it and I thought something like the 8007 4 barrel may be a good option.

That is cool. Are there any kinds of markings on it? I bet it will work.

Sam,

I didn’t see any marking in it when I got the unit. It’s currently at the rebuilders, but once I get it back all see if there are any markings on it. Are you still running your setup?

Also,

Another reason I think the 4 barrel may work well is I have 140 heads on this engine.

If you make the Judson make more boost... you start breaking vanes!!

Matt,

That is a good point. I hadn’t considered the vanes. Do you think putting on a Holley 390cfm would push it too much?

I am just wondering . . . . .
Would it really make more boost?
Or just push more volume?
With a 140, just getting more volume would be a plus !

The restriction is the size of the two ports so I doubt it is going to change much. They only make a few pounds of boost and even less on 164ci motors. From what I have read you can't drive them faster with a smaller pulley without destroying veins.

I have never had mine on my car. I have been having such a good time with my stock setup that I have not had the itch to put it on.

Which 2 ports?
The two in the picture of the Blower?
Or the two(one on each side) in the heads?
If you are referring to the heads, that is not a big deal because of the forced induction.
If you are referring to the blower, then what I suggested about removing the divider begins to make even more sense.
Opening that space up would give you at least 25% more breathing space which is important on the vacuum side of the pump!

Its a decent idea. I am a little on the fence about modifying the divider on the blower intake. Since they are getting hard to find I wouldn't want to do something that cant be undone. But I may try putting the 4 barrel mount back on and see what results I get. Since I have the correct 2 barrel I think fist step is get it running and dial in the 2 barrel. See how it preforms and then look at the other carb.
