40 Year Old NOS Delco EM Corvair Shocks

Any opinions based on experience whether or not 40 year old NOS EM Corvair oil filled shock absorbers would still be good if installed? I realize there are no absolutes/guarantees.

Depends a lot on how and where they were stored. If stored flat, they should be good, because the oil would have kept the seals lubricated. If stored standing up, then the seals will fail sooner than later. That is why the boxes were designed to lay flat with the part number on the end.

Plus they would probably fit on shelves better.

Regardless how they where stored they will likely be better quality and outlast the current crop of Chinese replacements.IMHO ;0

I installed 40 year old NOS Delco shocks on my Rampside about 12 years ago. They are still on there and still seem to be fine. No leaks (yet).
