jalopnik Series in February...
Posted by: alpha1906 ()
Date: January 10, 2018 12:58PM

Hey everyone,

I'm writing a series for Jalopnik that chronicles the resto of my '66 Corsa. It won't be just a bunch of wrenching, but goes into why we love our cars. All cars have stories, real or imagined, and my series will create a story surrounding my '66. It'll begin in February, so I hope you'll follow along.

Looking forward to reading the series. And I appreciate the heads up. Hopefully, you will mention CORSA.

Not only CORSA but your local club and internet resources. I hope you are a CORSA member and have found a local club to join. Adding various local events plus the convention into your articles will give tons of free advertising to everyone.

best wishes, Steve

Don't worry. I'm going to join the South Coast Corsas and do something with them at the end of the series.

How much restoration are you doing? Sounds like an interesting series.

So --- you're going to restore the car before you contact Corvair folks in a club that might offer some advice. O.K.

Uh...no. I actually have Mark Wright doing the mechanical work, and he's more than qualified to handle it. So there's that.

Mark is good.

Dan the Gear Man in SCC is the go to person for transmission or differential work.

And that is who I plan to have work on my trans. So...as I said before, I'll meet up with SCC after near the end of the series.

You could get the clubs involved now if you mentioned the activities etc in your articles each installment. That way readers who aren't involved with Corvairs would have some time to look into the marque and see what the Corvair scene around the country is doing for events.

I would have thought you would have joined SCC before even starting your series, if nothing else just to get some insight into the Corvair world.

Dan tends to be more "helpful" to folks that have been active in the SCC club, but you do what you want. Last I heard Dan had quite a back log or work.

This isn't my first Corvair. Plus, read the series. It'll make sense.

Next installment comes in a day or two. Been on the lecture tour. Almost finished with it. You should NOT think of this as a conventional series about renovating a car. This is a fiction/non-fiction mix that is heavy on the storytelling. That's why it's not really the appropriate space for doing your typical 'how to'. But it will be very interesting.
