65 Greenbrier 8 Door...how rare is it?

I know that there is no firm answer on this, but how many are known about?

65 has some year only stuff that fc guys love and hard to find. The fc engine with alternator bracket is pretty rare also. so it is rare in a sense but I dont know if its so much sought after vs prior years.

Here's an estimate that's basically from the hip...

1528 '65 Greenbriars were produced.

Let's GUESS 10% survive (probably high) that means 152 might remain.

Let's GUESS 5% were 8-door; that's about 7 vehicles remaining.

Even if 10% were 8-door (and I think that's high), that's still only 15 vehicles.

In this world of guesses, I'd GUESS 7 or fewer remaining.

1965 Greenbrier production: 1528

CORVANATICS - the Forward Control (Corvair 95 series) SIG (Special Interest Group) of CORSA has a Registry. (Created & Maintained by Steve Spilatro, CORSA Social Media Director)

Here is the numbers so far:

1965 Models - Greenbrier: 90 - with the 8 door option: 13[/color]

Just under 6% of the production is found in the Registry (so far)

Of the 90 Greenbriers in the Registry 14.44% have the 8 door option.

I invite CORSA members with a passion for Forward Controls to become members of Corvanatics! It's a great place to learn and share.

... Thanks for that Dan!

Corvanatics registry (13 vehicles) and my WAG (7 to 15) support each other.

I wonder how many among the 13 in the registry would be considered usable/restorable vs. scrap?

Yup I have been a member of Corvanatics since the day after I bought the van. I have the patch on my backpack! They are an amazing resource.

I believe almost all (maybe all) of the '65 8-door GBs are in Kent Sullivan's Registry, which generally presents more information about each FC; we exchange info as it comes our way. Kent's CorvairKid website is also a great place for FC and car info.

Well then, it sounds like it might be a good idea to share the information, be included, and include photo's of the data plate for research related reasons.

Of course all this can be done via PM to help insure privacy to a large degree if that is a concern. JMO

As far as "Rare" is concerned, I genuinely believe that the rarest FC is a rust free FC.grinning smiley

Will, I think you are correct. Dave Langlois owns a "school bus" yellow 65 6 door.
I am sure he still has his. I would have to say to answer your question VERY RARE.
The nicest one I have ever seen is owned by the collector in Oregon (Bill Jabbs I believe). Duane W. did quite the restoration on it.

Unless he got rid of it since I left P-town, you are correct.
Anything Duane touches is incredible!

Regarding the restoration of Bill Jabs 1965 Greenbrier DeLuxe 8-door, which he bought from Bob Slusher.

Corvair Kid's website (Kent Sullivan) has this Vairy interesting page:

http://www.corvairkid.com/R1265S100360.htm

There you will find an extensive set of photos that "the two Duanes*" contributed as the restoration proceeded

I drooled over Jabb's 'Brier the first time I saw it. The only issue I have with it, though, is that it is a basically stock deluxe 'Brier, with the exception of the "custom" upholstery on the seats. If I was lucky enough to own it, it would be so pure stock that it would bring tears to Larry Claypool's eues (and a lot of others' eyes as weoo.) LOL Something that rare deserves to be pure stock.
