"one car" car show... everywhere I go

My truck draws a lot of attention, more so than any of my previous Corvairs. To me, it's not the finest specimen of a Corvair I've ever had or seen but today was exceedingly crazy... I stopped at Lowes Home Improvement on my way home from the grocery store to get a few things real quick and be on my way. A couple of guys stopped by as I was getting out which led to a couple more and when that group left, another formed. I give my standard spiel, show the engine and answer the usual questions. This went on for quite a while and I got cold standing outside so I broke it up and went in. When I came back out, it started all over again. I was at Lowes for over 2 hours!

I forget or take for granted just how unusual this truck is to most people.

Art when I stop for gas or in/out of restaurants it is
a steady crowd gathering even in my dirty DD 67 cpe. PLUS
people wave in traffic and talk while waiting for traffic
light to change. We should drive our Corvairs every time
we have a chance, easy promotion as I see it.

best wishes, Steve

I agree, Steve... I do try to promote them as much as I can. Although, I only drive it to work when I know I won't have any errands or stops along the route. Any stops for gas or what-not and you have to plan at least a few extra minutes to talk to people.

It's kinda hard to take a picture of yourself and the outside of your vehicle driving down the road. If it's in your driveway it obviously runs or you pushed it there.

Phil's picture is so true! I take any one of my bone stock Corvairs to a car show and there is none stop crowds asking a million questions and the high dollar Camaro next to me has just the odd other Camaro owner chatting him up.
As much attention as my Corvairs attract I can't believe how few are around my area.

Art, you might as well get used to it. Of all the wonderful ways the Corvair cars are attractive, I think that a Rampy is the most attention-getting of them all. It certainly has the one feature NObody has ever copied to date, and that's the ramp.

The only thing that comes close is an Aussie custom built (but very popular) vehicle called the "Cupie"(sp?), named after the famous WWII era doll of the same name. It's built from the front half of a small 4WD pickup, converted to strictly front drive. The frame is extended straight back, the rear suspension made similar to the GMC motorhome (independent, with nothing in the center of the vehicle), and the tailgate made into a ramp. With a low, flat floor and ramp tailgate, it's just the ticket for transporting riding mowers and other wheeled things.

If we were smart, we'd be making them here. They'd sell like hotcakes, IMHO.
