I need some help with a diagram

Guys

Can someone send me the diagram/paperwork showing how to convert

an early car to an alternator

I specifically need the wires, and where they go.

Working on a club members car, and it is not charging, and everything else is good, new/replaced.

Which alternator did they swap to?
Look under electrical here.

Ok I checked with FAQ and it offers internally regulated alt's

This set up is externally regulated.

What differences should I look for

The 2nd and the 8th item in the electrical section deal with several externally regulated alternators. Beyond that all I can suggest is a service manual. Is this a stock 65-69 charging system?

Don't know if this helps but about halfway down this page of various updated schematics is a diagram and comments about a 64 with an externally regulated alternator conversion.

I don't see why anyone converting from a generator to an alternator would not just use an internally regulated alternator.

from or FAQ's " Converting EM to LM Alternator"

Don’t rule out a faulty part. New or replaced doesn’t guarantee it works 😉

Does the voltage regulator need to be isolated from ground [except for the obvious plug on the side.]

The isolation is for Vibration..... that's why the ground wire from it to body.

I don't think that was the question.

Guys

This is the changes he wanted to make, he had it made into an externally mounted regulator.

I am just the one who has to fix it.

Frankly, those that know me, I wouldn't change to an alternator on an early for all the tea in China.

I like them the way they were built, fix it/rebuild it/ make it work the way it was supposed to do and you will be fine.

Last week I talked a fellow out of converting to an alternator on his Vair. He didn't need greater amperage capability. Someone told him generators were unreliable and could not be fixed.

I informed him a properly rebuilt generator would give him years of trouble free service and save him money vs. converting.

That said a fellow in our club bought a van with lots of electical equipment and a 10SI with the 10DN Corvair housing. The P.O. who did the conversion didn't tighten the fan/pulley nut properly and it came loose destroying the alternator and burning up his wiring. His "shop" had no idea how to find a rebuilt 10SI with a Corvair front housing or deal with modified wiring. So he came to our club for help. I built up a 10SI with his Corvair front housing and pulley and fixed his wiring WITH FUSES.

So I can see why someone would want the stock external regulated stock alternator setup since you can just go to a auto parts store for replacements.
