65-66 directional levers
Posted by: corvairsince70 ()

Does anyone know which lever is for what on 65-66? I have long ones, short ones, and different angled ones.
What is correct for 1) standard steering wheel, 2) non-telescopic wood wheel, 3) telescopic wheel?
Anyone have pictures of all and can sort them out?

I did a quickie search for "turn signal lever" then selected threads and within the past 90 days and came up with the above. I hope it helps.

The various year knobs I am familiar with. It is the levers I need help with. As I said, long vs. short, and different angles. All of the ones I have that vary in length and angle are 65-66.

If you look at the link I posted, you will see the 66 lever.

According to Clark's online catalog, the long one is for the standard steering wheel and the short one is for the telescoping steering wheel.

Hi Roger here.

In a week or two I will be releasing my Stainless Steel Turn signal levers. They are the correct length and the correct bend angle. These are for all 1961-69 cars except Telescopic columns. Here is a picture. I can not find a 1960 turn signal lever knob. It is the same knob that is used in the 1958-61 full size Chevy.

Roger, any chance you will do one in billet, or all metal with a metal knob instead of plastic? An aluminum lever would look cool.

Thank you Roger. If the shorter lever is for telescopic, what is the other bend angle for?

Bob - I think I will try to make an Aluminum knob. Might look nice. It would not have the horzinal groves in it. But I could put rings around it instead.

Dennis - I think the only difference is the length. Because the telescopic column is bigger in diameter. Both should have the same bend angles. The bend angle is because the mounting area on 65-69's is perpendicular to the column. On 60-64 the threaded mounting hole is at an angle so the lever will be parallel to the steering wheel.

I seriously doubt that the lever was the same, but I had that same '68-'69 rubber knob on my '76 chevy van.
And I know it was used even later than that.

Roger,
See attached pic. These are the levers I have to choose from. The 67 and 68-69 are easy. But the rest....

Hello Dennis: Not sure this is helpful to your question but numerous times since 1965 I have modified the angle of the turn signal stalk per customer request to move either closer or further from the wheel OR when installing smaller diameter wheels with different dish measurements.

I would use the one that is most comfortable to having your hand operate it in a manner that is suits you.

best wishes, Steve
