() Date: December 27, 2017 01:14PM longevity and another person mentioned the angle on them is not quite what they should be compared to stock so they do not get a full purchase on the shaft. But don't you have a 62 trans? They are not the same as 64-65. -Tom ![]() 63' Monza Spyder Convertable (in process) MY Build Thread 73' NovaSS 454 Big block 86' BMW 325es 98' Dodge 2500 12v Cummins Diesel with 1200 lb torque! 98' VW Jetta TDI, for daughter 01' Audi Allroad Stage 3 twin turbo NFCC Grand Island, NY Edited 2 time(s). () Date: December 27, 2017 02:52PM Tom - I have a pair of blocker rings (NOS) from many years ago. I believe they are for the 64-65 4-speed. Do you have the dimensions to check? I hoped that they were for the 66-up trans, but they are not. I measured them at one time, and a knowledgeable source said no, not for the 66. () Date: December 27, 2017 03:38PM At the moment I have not taken it all apart so I do not have a dimension yet. I might have a chance this weekend to get it apart. Hopefully what you have is what I need. -Tom ![]() 63' Monza Spyder Convertable (in process) MY Build Thread 73' NovaSS 454 Big block 86' BMW 325es 98' Dodge 2500 12v Cummins Diesel with 1200 lb torque! 98' VW Jetta TDI, for daughter 01' Audi Allroad Stage 3 twin turbo NFCC Grand Island, NY Re: WTB: set of 3849964 3-4 blocker rings Posted by:

() Date: December 27, 2017 04:12PM You know, Steve - You sent me all this same info months ago, you knowledgeable source, you. I looked for 10 minutes before giving up and asking again. Thanks! I will go re-measure them, if I can find them! Seth Emerson Check my new Performance Corvair Web site [www.perfvair.com] Re: WTB: set of 3849964 3-4 blocker rings Posted by:

() Date: December 27, 2017 04:28PM These two, new, rings are identical and measure .480 high. I don't see a "lightly machined ring around the outer" - Does that make these 63 style? () Date: December 27, 2017 04:39PM If you lap the new rings to each cone and pay attention to the height of the ring on the cone the Clarks rings work fine.I like to see them sit .040 -.050 high though ive seen them work good with much less. Mike Re: WTB: set of 3849964 3-4 blocker rings Posted by:

() Date: December 27, 2017 04:52PM Seth- I believe that there is suppose to be a ring, but not sure. () Date: December 27, 2017 06:57PM Clarks Mark and I talked about this but they have not had complaints but Dennis Derogi and I had the same problem where the gears would brake and lock up hence the keys clashed. I think it is due to the wrong cone angle. It really is critical and you can find his frustrating experiences in the archive of Dennis’ Sagan convertible restoration. If there is no band cut into the side of the blocker ring do not install it. You are better off with used. Often new gears work fine with used blockers. Used blockers on used gears have to be able to grip with gear oil on them but release easily when pulled straight off. The Clark 64-65 3/4 blocker repro really appears to be 61-63 blocker ring but I have not compared their angles side by side. There ought to to be more research. () Date: December 27, 2017 07:31PM Lapping the blocker rings to the cone is not an uncommon practice for this issue.A little blueing on even an GM ring will show how bad the contact can be. If the 3 slots on the ring are not not wide enough they will dead center the teeth of the gear and syncro causing a no shift, the ring must go from one side to the other on the up and down shift. Alot going on here but all can be corrected with a little work. Mike Re: WTB: set of 3849964 3-4 blocker rings Posted by:

() Date: December 28, 2017 04:48AM This is a big concern to me having a transmission on my work bench almost completely reassembled and ready to go back in the vehicle and reading there are potential problems with recently purchased parts. If I am going to have to custom fit parts in order for them to function properly then there should be a warning included with the parts warning of this situation. It takes many hours of labor to replace blocker rings. Re: WTB: set of 3849964 3-4 blocker rings Posted by:

() Date: December 28, 2017 05:40AM The 61-3 blocker rings have exactly the same dimensions as the 64-5 blocker rings! The ONLY difference is the cone angle and it is not much! It is not visible to the naked eye. Going on memory and we all know how that can go I think the early has a 7 degree cone angle and the 64-5 has a 10 degree cone angle. I will go measure the angle and get back here. Ken Hand Handy Car Care 248 613 8586 Vairmech@aol.com Re: WTB: set of 3849964 3-4 blocker rings Posted by:

() Date: December 28, 2017 06:14AM An early trans I built for Russ Thulen had this issue going into third gear, after a few (many 100 ) miles the ring seated to the cone and it was/is fine. Since then ive been checking the contact with a little more concern ![]() I dont know Seth, I dont do enough of the earlys to recognize them. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum. |
