Why does the Corvair generator shaft have a hollow end?

I was talking to a Corvair buddy about only Corvair's having left hand threads on generators, but the alternators were right hand thread

He stated "Only the Corvair generators have a hollow shaft were the nut goes on to identify them as left hand thread (LHT). All the RHT generator shafts were solid on the nut end.

What say you?

I don't know but will guess that it was from the machine work when manufactured.

I was told it was done to easily identify the armatures for the Corvair only generator with LHT. No verification, but it's a logical story.

Don't think that rule of thumb is 100%. My 62 Pontiac Delco generator with right hand armature nut:
