Cheap FC Anti-Theft Device

Hard to believe that a gas-cap could fetch so much scratch.

Or rather, because it provides a minimum of three benefits, such as,preventing someone from throwing something into your fuel tank, stealing your gas cap or driving further than a full tank will allow after they have stolen your Vair...

...it might just be a bargain?

Truth is,it's a Christmas present to myself. The part # checks out,but the design variates a bit from the image on Corvanatics dealer installed accessories.
I hadn't ever seen one before.

For reference, both images are supposed to be part #988277.
So three different designs with the same part #? Doubtful.

I.have one. Not NOS but nice used. Was missing a key. Got it appart and had a key made.
When I had the shop we sold repos that were available for awhile. IIRC its a design from the 50's pr maybe even late 40's that fits chevy trucks and some cars

I picked up several NOS AC locking gas caps for club members when I could find them for a reasonable price.
I still have a few NOS and great uses for all my cars but the problem is the ethonol gas destroys the rubber seal.

GM often had to source from different suppliers for the same part number.

There are THREE different Corsa tachometers I've seen. All work the same, but parts are different.

Interesting.
I understand the concept of first design and second design.
I also understand using different part #'s for the same part as years progressed.
I wasn't aware that multiple designs shared the same part#.
As to Corsa tachs- Were there different ones based on year, like how Spyder clusters are different,year-over-year?

The Corsa was only produced for two years with more produced during the 65 model year. After all this time instruments have been swapped around so I can't say with certainty, but my observations suggest different units were used during each model year.

The "dials" are all the same (and oddly a gloss black background vs. the semi-gloss used on all the other gauges). I recall there are two different circuit board designs and three different meter designs. Some circuit boards allowed the use of individual components or the integrated circuit (not like todays chips and ahead of it's time for commercial equipment).

You have to take the tachometer apart to note the differences. In the dash they all look the same and the external terminals are all the same.

We have discussed this before here... IIRC only 1960 locking gas cap had the bow tie on it. After that it was smooth but GM kept using the bow tie photo in the accessories catalog rather than updating it.

Not at all, Murphy. My Greenbrier has a locking gas cap. If mine GB was deserving of a NOS cap like that, I would have bid higher until I got it. Money would have flowed.

I was kind of reminding tp that he was adding a duplicate photo from the eBay posting that everyone had already seen. This is from someone whose profile is to build something and not waste time on forums. That post with the photo was a waste in my opinion.

Gosh. I guess I need to explain my pic sharing to my personal troll.
EBay ads disappear over time,as do the pics associated with them.
I'll do better and take a high quality pic of it when it arrives.

Al. Is there a specific background or setting you would approve of for the photo shoot?drinking smiley
