Car Covers, So Many To Chose From...
Posted by: UGLYTRUK ()

After my divorce, all my vehicles are now in a dusty shop, including my too early convertibles, and in couple days I'll be bringing in a 78 Eldorado. So I was thinking of a car cover, and there are far too many to choose from on ebay. I did a search Matt, but I found too many unrelated stuff for some reason.
The cars will never sit outside, and the Eldorado is going to be shipped to Israel in the spring where it's sunny sunny sunny in Tel Aviv.

Indoor storage only?

Quilts and blankets from Goodwill Store on dollar day. I stitch them together with small Zip-tys or hot glue the overlapping layers as required for full coverage on the sides too. Quilts actually afford some protection from bumps and dings where car covers are useless against those kinds of indoor storage perils.

Agreed, there are many of various quality, so I will provide a personal reference.

Quilts and blankets may hold humidity/moisture and can attract rodents for nesting material. We have seen paint damaged by some blanket material that is too coarse.

I found and purchased an affordable and very good quality/fit car cover last year. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and is by far the best I have purchased at less than $50. Double stitched and welded seams and installed grommets. Storage Bag and Free Shipping to boot.

As listed on Ebay; 9 Layer Car Cover Indoor Outdoor Waterproof Breathable Layers Fleece Lining 6395 by Konocovers).

It is heavy enough material that when I bumped my Corsa the other day the car cover was scuffed but not a mark on the paint.

-Quilts hold moisture? Fix the roof please.

-Mice use the quilts for bedding? Better than using your seats and carpet padding.

-Quilts can scratch your paint? You must be smart enough to avoid buying 40-grit quilts.

This eBay 110 layer car cover must be AWESOME!! grinning smiley grinning smiley

I'm going to buy one just so I can count my layers!!
After I'm done counting my stacks of coins, of corsa!

Sure glad it's 110 layers - not the 99 layers that the cheap imitation covers employ!

Kofefe!! , I say!

Agree with Phil. I have their Dustop Custom cover and love it. Believe my Lakewood was used to make the first cover for a Corvair wagon and it fits perfect. Going to buy one for my LM vert. Maybe under the tree right now!!!

Those are nice but $500? I can buy a new generic for years to come for less.

Not sure where you arrived at $500. The website link Phil provided indicate the Dustop cover at $189.99. Well worth it. It's your paint. Cover it with quilts and wire ties if necessary.

I have the Evolution style covers that Clark's sells for my Late Coupe and the 95 FC Van that sit outside and they have held up very well so far.

On my Prowler which sits in the Garage, I have a OE Custom fit cover that appears to be the same material. This car also is enclosed in a "Car Bag" that zips up to deter any field mice or chipmunks from getting in.

I have desiccant bags in to deal with any moisture that may be in there and fabric softener sheets to further deter any rodent that may get in. I find the fabric softener sheets work as well as moth balls and the odor is easier to deal with and goes away quicker too.

I have the California Car Covers Duststop on my 65 Sedan. Fits very well, keeps the paint protected. I usually also throw a sheet of visqueen over it- so that when we are grinding in the garage it doesn't fill my cover with abrasive dust.

I've also had many Walmart Budge Car Covers- they let everything through.
