Digitized Shop Manuals
Posted by: Bob Helt ()

We have some of the EM Shop manuals digitized and available for download, Also the 1965 SM.

But are there any of the 1966-69 shop manuals available in digitized form?

Bob:

Here is a list of what I have loaded on my computer.

edit:

I do have a 1967 Shop Manual I could scan, if needed. I would really hate to tear apart the manual, if someone has already scanned the manual.

You may wish to look at the Corvanatics Manuals and the Engineering and Pricing web pages also.

Thanks Steve, but I have many times scoured those web pages to no avail. If you stop to think about it, the Corvanetics group wouldn't be interested in any data/documents after 1965 anyhow since the last FC was produced as a 1965 model.

And I'm looking for the 1966-69 shop manuals, or one of these, digitized of course..

Bob,
Oh, OK. I missed that you're only looking for 65+ documents.
btw: If you get any documents that need scanning and your only option is a flat bed scanner, I have access to a high throughput scanner that could save a lot of time.

I have 2 full sets of digitized shop manuals. The original are on CD and use some kind of software to open. They came from a place called Detroit Iron. I think they sold out to someone because as I got a better computer and different operating system the old CDs would not work anymore and the new company sent me new ones for cost.
The new CDs work with Adobe.

Detroit Iron CD-ROM is the one I got also several years ago for the 1966 Corvair. That is why I have the 65 shop manual and 66 supplement digitized. The 67 paper supplement came from a friend who found it in Maine and picked it up for me.

I try to get everything I can electronically. I don't have enough room for the file cabinents to store all the paperwork I keep for all the vehicles, tools and equipment I have acquired.

Since the manuals are copyrighted, anyone who wants their own electronic copy can search eBay with the search words below

Lots of CDs show up in the returned list.

Steve,
I don't think that as for TSBs, there is even a complete list of them, much less a digitized list.

It would be interesting to have a list of the Corvair TSBs.
Anybody???

You can purchase the digitized manuals mentioned by Ken and Al, Detroit Iron, by going to The Motor Bookstore

I may be old-fashioned, but my question has always been why? confused smiley I get more use out of my paper copies than I could ever get out of something on the computer. But that's just me. "Your mileage may vary" as they say. To each his own, I guess.

While I prefer reading a hardcopy for most things, digital is great for automotive repair manuals. You can print the pages you need for a job, write on them, get them greasy, and just throw them away when you are done. Ideally, having both hard and electronic copies is ideal for me.

David,
That is my preference as well. I grew up with manuals being the primary source for information. They would eventually get grease and dirt marked no matter how careful I was. When manuals started coming out on CD's I set up a dedicated shop computer with laser printer. Now I can look through the manual and when ready, print off the procedure, torque specs etc.toss when done. I love it! smiling smiley

I like both. I will pull out the paper shop manual and read through something, but the digital documents are searchable. I have the Corsa Tech Guide in both printed and digital also. I can print out a page or two from the CD and bring it out to the garage. That keeps the printed one clean.
