I got a parking ticket in the mail in northern Maine and I live in southern Maine. Called the PD on the ticket. They asked me to describe my car. It wasn't even close to the actual picture they had. Thankfully it ended there and they sent me a letter stating it had been removed from my record.

Here's another angle about parking tickets. About 25 years ago, one of my kids was going to Kent State U. They had college-age kids in police uniforms ticketing parking violators. Campus police.
Well, a ticket appeared on the windshield of his car, but they had written an "F" instead of an "E" for one of the letters.
He didn't pay it and as far as I know, nothing was ever done about it. How could you track that back then?

I got my license more than 50 years ago. Have to say I have "got away with" much more driving infractions than I have ever been ticketed for. Also have to say many more Cops have been just decent with me than were ever expected in the 1960's.
Also had a bad ticket show up on my license renewal 10 years ago. Went to court with my documents. The judge cleared it up with no problems and told me to get an abstract of the record

I'm sure almost all of these type things can be won with time spent fighting but for most of us the time it'll take is worth more than the cost of whatever money the government is extorting out of us. Yes I say it's extortion.

I agree....

In 2009 while driving a 26 ft Penske with Jeep on a trailer in Sweetwater , Tx.

I was pulled over on an uphill onramp buy a Teeny little Caesar...for going 70 plus! sure....

When I questioned him NICELY.... I was told to get out and put my hands behind my back.... I relented and paid the FULL fine, since to go to "drivers school".... you had to physically go to Sweetwater...no online....

A few weeks later 60 minutes did a segment on This scam...

Get a copy of the ticket....! THAT IS FIRST ON YOUR LIST...In NC, you keep the same dr lic number your whole life....check the dr lic # and get your number for that time and make a comparison. That should get you off...

On the back side, unless you have proof you were physically Overseas on that day....easy to come home in just a few hours....hummmm.

Check that ticket over very close...I got out of a ticket in Memphis while in the Navy....my boss had been a legal Yeoman and one place on the ticket had a blank. The judge said to the arresting officer....where did this charge take place as my boss had circled that blank in deep red.

Judge said, son, you in a corvette and you will walk out of this court...no charge , no fee...then looked at the cop and said...better do a better job next time.

I think you would be better off, if the ticket is complete and matches your driver lic number, lic plate, the arresting officer I bet will not be there..and the judge, I would put money on it...will reduce the speed and fine to almost nothing if not dismissing the ticket.

I received a similar parking ticket from the City of Brotherly Love in the mid-70's for my '65 Corsa which, at the time of the alleged parking violation, had been up on jackstands with the engine and trans out. I had to go before the local JP and sign an affidavit stating that my car wasn't there. To be fair, it could have been a typo on the ticket.

The parking ticket stories reminded me of my sister, who as a teenager would get parking tickets and her friends convinced her to "throw them away and nothing will happen". The only problem is the car she was driving was my Mom's.

One day two police officers came to my Mom's house and told her she had to go downtown to see a judge and settle the matter since a warrant had been issued. So my Mom got escorted to the police cruiser and placed in the back seat IN FRONT OF ALL THE NEIGHBORS!!

Yes my sister got grounded for a LONG time.

A long time ago I got a parking ticket in Rehoboth Delaware. My friends parents had a waterfront summer house there. Anyway I just said screw it, they won't come after me in PA for $25 ticket. My BAD, big time. So every few months I would get a letter and the fine would go up. After several years of this it made it to nearly $500 , remember this was only a parking ticket. Then they upped the anti with a certified mail stating I would be arrested and my car empounded if I was caught in Delaware. Needless to say Duane did the driving after that. Nothing happened for more than a year. Then one day I got a letter stating they were having an amnesty program to clear the books. It was back to the original fine plus $10 court cost if received within two weeks. My check was in the next outbound mail, lesson learned.

It's unfortunate that so many have had experiences similar to mine. Jimmy, you have much better judges there than we do in Texas. Down here they don't care what the ticket says. I've had tickets that had the wrong plate, description, location and blanks and the judge's response has always been "so what?".
I started asking for jury trials on tickets because the courts in Denton were so corrupt. I proved that I wasn't guilty before a jury and the judge told the jury that if they didn't find me guilty she would hold them in contempt and put them all in jail. Needless to say they came back with a guilty verdict. My most recent experience was in Northlake where they charged me with a made up "law" after the prosecutor figured out I wasn't in violation of the real one. I showed the judge the real law that I wasn't in violation of and his answer was also "so what?".

My mom was a witness for me in Fort Worth when the judge said "There is no reason for you to testify because you are just going to lie anyway". I ordered a transcript and guess what? The court reporter didn't record what he said but tamed it way down. It was still bad but was totally inaccurate.

Southlake gave me a ticket for turning right on red from the shoulder which is completely legal unless there is a sign prohibiting it. I printed out the law and took it to court. They offered to reduce the fine! What a joke. They should have paid me. It took about 30 minutes of arguing how ridiculous it was to fine me for something that wasn't illegal but they finally dropped it.

I could go on and on.
As my dad used to tell me "If you wind up in court you have already lost".

Parking Tickets !

There was a news article in the paper years ago,(yes, way back when people used to read papers), about a poor fellow and his troubles.

It seems that when he bought a new car, he ordered personalized license plates for it.
They gave him 2 option spaces on the application, just in case the plate he desire was already taken, he could get a plate with his alternative choice.
Well, he did not want any plate if his first choice was already taken.
So he filled out the second space with the words, "no plate".
He anxiously awaited his new plates and when they arrived, he was horrified to see that some idiot had actually made him a tag that read, "NO PLATE"!

He was prepared to demand his money back, back after some consideration, thought that it would be funny to just keep it.

Almost as soon as this happened, he started getting notices from all over the state that he had multiple parking tickets from every city in the state.

Yep, you guessed it!
When ever an illegally parked car was un-tagged, the meter reader wrote down,

"NO PLATE"

He argued it, and they admitted that they were wrong, and wanted the plate back.
The article ended with him telling them, "NO, it is a legally issued plate. Change your method of writing un-tagged tickets."
I am not sure how it was finally resolved.

It was finally resolved with him paying a few million dollars in fines to New York City, so they could balance the parking fines with the city's deficit spending.

I know many see snopes as the go to fact checker and often they have good info, they are actually very questionable. Lots of information is available.

I'm not claiming Forbes is a particularly reliable source but the article is a sample of what is out there.
