LM Transaxle dipstick location on sheet metal?
Posted by: 66ragcorsa ()

I am going to put a 65 transaxle in my 66 and would like to use the dipstick, but the sheet metal I have is not drilled. There is a flat place that looks like the possible location near the center of the piece. Wondering if anyone could post some pics of the dipstick location before I drill this one out.
Thanks!

Here is my '65. The transaxle dipstick is over to the right. I do believe 1966 and later sheet metal has a flat spot where the grommet would go.

Or hit up a friend for the 65 one and replace yours. I must have a dozen of them - in California! Arrgh!

That makes since, all I have had are manuals and just was not thinking about an automatic. I had one with a hole in it several years back and got rid of it because “I would never need that”. Should be easy enough to drill, but a factory one would be better.

Steve sez: contact Ken Hand (vairmech) here. Ken is in Mich and probably has a dozen of the piece.

Here's what I found in my stash, all excess to my needs but inconvenient to ship. A close inspection will yield at least three variations.

I agree with the others that you should get a 65 shroud and save your 66 style for if you ever change back.

To Bob: Nice selection you have there. Only problem I see is they all look very dirty.
Now where did I leave my glasses?
