Opinions on selling EM Corvair 8G Memory Sticks / Flash Drives
Posted by: azdave ()
Date: December 04, 2017 12:34PM

I have been pursuing an EM flash drive project for the 60-64 lovers who felt left out when the LM drives were offered here.

Attached are the images I received from the manufacturer. Other than the rubber flashing on the mold split line getting cleaned up, this is about what they will look like when completed. These are not high-dollar molds and this is about all I can expect from such a short run order.

I am at the decision point of whether to continue this project or cut my losses. These would only be offered in 8G capacity and only in red or blue as shown.

I'm targeting a lower delivered price and that means less body color and capacity options. $15 each delivered to any USPS address is my planned sales price. I have to commit to 250 units and can only choose two colors so it is a bit of a risk if they don't sell. I also do not expect to have them in my hands before Christmas so that doesn't help matters.

Opinion?
Do you these represent an EM well enough that I can sell through them in 6 months or so?

Note: I'm not taking names, orders or cash up front. I'm just asking if you think I can sell through these in a reasonable amount of time. Until I have these in my hands and able to ship the next day, I will not accept any funds.

Not at all impressed with their translation of the design elements of the EM.
The front looks more like the early 1960s Chevy Truck!
Even the tampo for the side "windows" is missing the mark. Why wouldn't they extend that forward to make the A pillar more correct?
Besides, I want a Lakewood/Monza!!

They are sure cute, Dave. But I won't be buying any until you can offer at least 64G storage and preferably 128G

I might be inclined to purchase a LM if you decide to go that route since I never got the one I ordered the the othe memory stick run.

Most people I've talk to don't intend to use these no-name USB drives for any serious storage purposes. They want them for display only or to use as gifts and awards at club shows. That is why I chose 8G capacity. Jumping from 8G up to 128G adds $23 extra to the cost from this supplier. Based upon the underwhelming response so far, I am unlikely to proceed with these but thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for pursuing this. Not nearly as close to the look of an EM as the LM version I bought. I would not buy one unless it was a better design.

Great effort but 8GB is about as practical as a floppy disk these days.

Well, like I said, most people tell me they will not use these for data storage. It's more of a novelty thing to have around like Corvair pillows, socks and coffee mugs. No way I would ever risk over $8000 of my own money on a minimum order of 64G or 128G custom flash drives. Risking $3000 is bad enough.

For $15, I'll take a red one. But I don't have my heart set on it.

I'll take a couple...red for sure.

Got to have a match for my late model.

Hopefully a Forward Control is next.

And I don't care how many gigabytes.
