Yes, that is why I was wondering if it was someone from here.

They are drawing air from the oil filler tube, I have always heard that, that is not necessarily a good idea? confused smiley

Crankcase vent can come from anywhere...as long as there's a baffle for the liquid oil....wonder if they thought of that?

I made those air cleaners for the owner over a year ago. I added, sized, and located the hose nipples on the oil fill pipe and air cleaner top per his request. Its hard to see in the pic but the fill pipe nipple is angled up about 45 degrees to pass the hose over the belt and prevent any liquid from flowing in. There would be very little air draw through the hose, it serves more to vent crankcase pressure.

Its a clean, nice looking set up. What I don't see is where the air enters the custom breathers. Is it the small "box" looking things (next to the alt and next to the firewall)?

Dan

How does the '61-only manual choke integrate with this 140?

Art - Yes, that's where the air inters. They are EM lower filter cans without the cross pipe.

Pedigo - Not sure what you're asking. I guess he just used manual choke carbs, or the manual tops on later carbs. I just made the air cleaners and shipped them to him.

I think the chock cables are just there for looks as there are chock pull-offs on both carbs. As for the hose going into the oil fill tube that is to let clean filtered air into the crankcase. The PCV then pulls the nasty stuff out of the crankcase so that it can be burnt in the engine by the way of the balance tube. If the engine has too much blow-by for the PCV valve to handle then the extra would flow out the oil fill tube to the air cleaner to also be burnt. This makes for a REAL Positive Crankcase Ventilation System like almost every other engine used after they went away from road draft tubes. If you have all of the air (clean and dirty) going thru one opening then all you have is a glorified road draft tube. I made a system very much like this one that Craig got in his crunched Greenbrier and it is now in his Rampside. In the system that I made I found some air cleaner bases out of '80's and I think even up into the '90's GM Celebrity type cars that are the same dia. as the stock bases but are taller so they have a taller filter. The pedestals will need to be shortened a little bit to make them fit. These also have a 3" inlet that should flow better than the stock ovals. Some of these you will need to weld the lid into the bottom as the air flow was different than a Corvair but no big deal. Also a lot of the housings are plastic so you have to look for the metal ones.
