EM axle bearing servicing

What is the best way to rebuild the axle bearings on my 64? I have them off the axles and want to pull them apart from the housings and inspect them to make sure that they are ok to repack and reuse.

If the bearings you removed from your 64 are a cast iron housing, there is a snap ring holding the bearing into this housing. Pop out the ring and then work the bearing out of the housing.

Replacement parts are available from Clark's. You get everything that goes into the cast iron housing.

To pull them apart, with the intention of reusing you need either the special puller plate that pulls on the puller ring and a good sized hydraulic press or the puller tool that is specifically made for that.

As Frank said there is a snap ring that has to be removed then the race and bearing can be removed for inspection and relubrication. If you take it fully apart don't loose the shim. When finally assembled there should be .001-.003" between the race and snap ring.

Through doing my research the match for the proper lube was:

SHELL GADUS S2 V220

I have more pics and info in my build thread labeled "the mutt" You can click the link in my Sig.

Thanks for the help. I have the bearings off the axles and was looking at how to get the bearings out of the housings. And now I know how.
