Question about replacing Turbo with carburetors
Posted by: red64vair ()
Date: November 26, 2017 07:46PM

What horsepower would this engine produce? Replacing the heads on a 1964 110 HP engine with 1964 Turbo heads (no Turbo) with two one barrel Rochester.

Compression matches a 95 hp. Unfortunately, because of the turbo cam, it won't have the low end torque of a 95. Since you live in the South, you probably won't miss the chokes much.

Lower compression and since 64 turbo is open chamber design probably detonation chances increase. Remember distributor is different too.

If I read correctly you want to put turbo heads on a non turbo motor? You'll basically kill the compression and the performance.
If you're putting 110 heads on a turbo motor with a center mount 2bbl. it will perform ok. Not the optimal cam but passable. Use a 110 distributor.

Let me rephrase this. The only thing I will be using from the Turbo engine is the heads which I was thinking about putting on the 110 engine.

It will maybe perform like an 80 hp. Maybe. Probably worse since you'll have to pull out ignition timing to prevent pinging. Try to keep your 110 all 110.

Having driven an engine like this I will say:

Don't Do It!grinning smiley

95 Heads will be waaayyy better. Of course, 110 heads will be best.

Sounds like not a good idea.

There is a market for turbo heads. Perhaps someone will trade.
