145 CI vs 164 CI PG Bellhousings and Flexplates?
Posted by: 2ragtops ()

I am working on a car for a member. He has a late model 95 horse hooked to his 63 Monza. A late motor on an early differential needs an early bell housing, the one with the silver dollar impression correct??

Thanks all you guru's

Use the bellhousing intended for the engine

What Steve said plus... Yes, a 145 cubic inch engine uses the bell housing with the silver dollar imprint.

Silver Dollar impression is for camshaft clearance, nothing to do with differential.winking smiley

Doesn't the bell housing have to do with the clutch and main seal placement

Just a difference in main seal location (to match difference in crankshaft)

Ok guys, you have me confused for sure.

It is a 65 95 horse motor. It has an early 63 diff with a P/G.

The bell housing on it now, has the sliver dollar impression.

Do I use the bell housing that "goes" with the motor per Steve

The engine is a 164 cube engine Craig. Which bell housing?

I thought someone on here a while back said an early differential needs an early bell housing.

I am ready to put it back together and I want to get it right so I don't have to do it again.

As stated $ sign goes on an early 145 ci with flexplate with no small hole near crank holes..

Your later 164 requires the other bellhousing... and the f/p with a small hole..

There is approximately .070 difference in the seal location on the late model engine. Use the bell housing and flex plate that matches the engine.
